Hi all

Been gambling on and off for 30+ years . Was on this site 2 years ago and stopped for a whole year . Life was good had enough money to clear all my debts and re-mortgaged for a better rate . Within 6 months I have now started a debt management plan and am £42k in debt again . I will be in debt for another 6 years . The wife knows and I am on top of the mortgage and all other bills with no access to credit . I have used Gamstop so cant do that . It’s just the local bookies where I am spending the spare money I have left over for the moth after “getting rid” of my wages in bills , joint savings account (where we both have to sign to get any money ) and giving a “wage “ to the wife . She hasn’t worked for a few years and we don’t get benefits as my salary is quite good . Any suggestions to stop my current cycle of not having any spare money would be welcome . I’m guessing it’s barring myself from the bookmakers to avoid slots

Hi Bryan,

I seem to share a few similarities to yourself. I put signed up to gamestop 6 or 7 months ago which just led me to the bookies and arcades.

I paid and kept on top of all my Bill's but would gamble the rest away. As you may have guessed, I have no savings. I just seem to gamble everything I have left.

Last week I self excluded from the bookies, it was the best move I made and recommend you do the same. It's really easy to do so don't be apprehensive about it. Once I had done it, I felt an instant burden and/or temptation had been removed. Now I walk past them and they don't even register with me, all I think is why did I even go in that place?

One thing to remember is that you will always lose, even if you're 'up' one day, you'll lose it and more over the following days. Theres no logic to it. Just self destruction.

All the best.

Yes, you must self exclude from the shops.

I wish I had never stepped inside one,   I thought I’d be better off when roulette changed to 2 pound spin , but I have been chasing on other things just as bad or even worse.

Trying to stop again for the umpteenth time.

i wish you all the best with your recovery Bryan.

Thanks for taking the time to respond . I know I can give up , it’s the realisation of what I am actually giving up that is the hardest if that makes sense .  It’s a comfort blanket or somewhere to hide away and now it risks being taken away from me

You have a good salary and more importantly,  a wife.   You will lose the latter if you don’t wise up.
