Hi all I'm a 26yr old woman and today I woke up after spending just over 500 on online sites last night, I now have no money for my electric bill, my car insurance or other bills. I'm a mother to a 3yr old and it's dawned on me that I actually have a problem, when I can't even tell myself I'm spending money I need to use on him, this makes me feel utterly sick and worthless and I don't know how to cope anymore. I'm failing as a mum because I have this problem.

Hi Zchapman,
First of all it takes a great deal of courage to admit to a gambling problem so well-done for making a start. Just because you have made a mistake and gambled above what you could does not make you a failure. Think how you would react if your child did something wrong you would reprimand them and then be proud of them because they learnt from their mistake.
You need to treat yourself in the same manor learn from this experience do all you can from preventing it from reoccurring, be proud of everyday gamble free. Use the help available via this website and remember how you feel today and tell yourself you never want to feel this way every time you are temped to spend a penny gambling.
Keep strong and keep us all informed!!!
Hi Z
Do your self a favour and install gamblock as it seems from your post that all your gambling is online. I had a problem with online sites as its so easy when your a bit bored, or like me to many beers, to log on. You will be suprized how quick that you can get your finances back in order. I have gone 38 weeks now and my then £5000 debt has all but gone and it feels great.
TRUST ME IT WILL BE THE BEST £50 YOU HAVE EVER SPENT.
Good Luck
Colin
Hi Z Chapman - Colin has good advice; putting barriers between yourself and online sites really goes a long way to helping your recover from this terrible gambling affliction. Another blocking program is K9 which is free in case you don't have any spare money at the moment.
Secondly, you are not worthless! We have all felt disgusted with ourselves when we realise what we have been doing and how out of control our lives have become. But that is what human beings do - we all have weaknesses of one sort or another. The important thing is that we recognise those weaknesses and try to put things right. Be proud that you have admitted you have a problem and are doing something about it.
Also, how can you be worthless when you are loving and caring for your three year old?
There are many good people here who will sustain you through the journey, so be of good heart - you can do it!
