Hello all, new to the site, wanted to share my own personal issues regarding gambling and hopefully get to chat with like minded individuals.

my problem is with slot machines, both online and physical, the online being the more difficult addiction to break away from, I have been signed onto gamstop for over 5 years

the addictive part for me is getting the bonus feature on the game and the prospect of what that could win you, especially when you see other people winning from certain games, and even tho every gambling session ends the same way, I always find myself returning to it

even if I win, and withdraw, no win is big enough as the rush from spinning the slot doesn’t disappear when you win, if anything it fuels it even more because now you have lots of funds to carry on with

i have also used gambling to fill time, especially days off, I remember going into a local arcade, sitting down and within 10 spins I won, and I remember thinking, I’ve come in here to kill a few hours, and I’ve won within a few minutes, which was detrimental in the end because I wanted to kill time, so the winnings which is effectively what you’re there to try and do, were pointless!

it’s a horrible cycle for me, I end losing and depositing 100 after 100 in the end chasing losses, I then leave myself with virtually no money until next pay day, and then the cycle starts again

im hoping speaking to people through gamcare can help focus my mind and keep me away from the lure of online slots

thanks for reading

Hi,

Well done for taking the first steps! It’s an amazing achievement.

Are you able to talk to anyone? Share the load? Well done for signing up to GamStop, closing all those doors is definitely needed.

I say this a lot, eventually you could bet the value of a house, win double and still want more! It’s about breaking that cycle away from the evil demons!

Wishing you all the luck on your journey!

Welcome to the forum with your brave post and admittance that you have gambling harm.

Slot machines can be difficult resist as you can become fixated by the process. My son was a gambler for 9 years and gambled online and in betting shops and casinos. He chased losses, borrowed , told lies and then spiralled into a world of numbness where gambling was the only thing in his life but brought nothing but misery.

Making a decision to change that life is a brave but worthwhile one. It takes a lot of hard work and reaching out to gain help as impossible almost to do alone.

Gamcare offer so many ways to help , so call the helpline to speak to an adviser about package of help and signposting to guide you.

Son is 17 month gamble free now so all can be yours , so reach out..... you can do it!

Best wishes

Patsy
