Hi
It seems many of the new people on here are worried and scared about attending GA.
Was just wondering if it was worth using this thread to highlight which GA groups you attend.
This could then be used by anybody curious of a group in their area and see if somebody attends and could ask questions or even arrange to attend together.

I attend Coventry on a Thursday and Sunday evening.

Same as you Pooky. My nearest is nearly an hour away. No ga in York for some strange reason so nearest is Leeds!

An hours drive to save your life doesnt sound unreasonable to me.

Hi to all,

I used to sit behind slot machines for 40 - 60 hours per week. What a life!

I would guess that a lot of people would take over an hour to get to and from to work each day, so I don't think that an hour is too far to travel to a GA meeting. It seems to be a small price to pay to help fix up the mess that we all created, and get our lives back on track.

Best wishes

Point is should be a meeting in the major cities. Sure you can drive an hour etc to a meeting but that will hinder many people from going either with work or access to a vehicle. Understand what you mean hours drive not far but everyone is different, main thing is do whatever is best to aid recovery.

The probable reason there is no meeting in York is that the compulsive gamblers of that city cant be bothered to organize one. Who would you like to set it up there or in other places where there may not be one?
GA is self funded without contributions from anybody except its members. It is self governed. Anybody who gives their time to set up meetings, to organize places to meet to produce literature for your help, to open the door of a room you can walk through & seek help does so unpaid. People love to moan that they cant do things, that its inconvenient. Heres a thought how about you doing something to change rather than expecting someone to do it for you.

Without change nothing changes, & if you keep doing what you have always done then you will always get what you have always got & you will feel the way you have always felt.

I take your point and will look into trying to get a meeting sorted. I'm saying when the only city i have access to has no ga meeting and i'm just recovering would people take me seriously as 5 weeks free compared to a 5 year veteran? I'm trying to change or wouldn't be on this site so your last point is taken but neing applied, using other means than just ga meetings like counselling and gamily support.
Also well done on your vast days gambling free you are someone to aim for, got a way to go but starting the process.

TNSK no you wouldnt be able to open your own meeting after 5 weeks. The process would be to attend your nearest meeting there are possibly members there who are travelling from the same location you are & if they had a year free from gambling & a decent knowledge of the 12 steps you could ask them to think about setting up a meeting nearer your location. York to Leeds is about 25 miles isnt it? Personally i really enjoy the drive home as it helps me digest what i have heard that evening. Try & commit fully to it for 12 weeks i guarantee you will see a huge difference in your life

Yeah i will look into going, check the times its on and how i can get to the venue with transport. Live in a village bout 45 miles from leeds 15 from york. Got my counselling 12 sessions as well, finding these are helping a bit, slowing feeling more positive.

Cool well done so far. If you get there you may want to mention your struggling to get there because of transport issues, someone will probably offer you a lift. Counsellings good i did it myself. The only thing i have found with it is unless you continue with it its hard to keep practicing what you are being taught there without the weekly nudge. Thats where GA works its free it keeps you topped up on your meds so to speak

An hour isn't so bad but I have kids and work so it's difficult for me to attend
