Today I started closing accounts/ Self Excluding myself from game sites/ Slots. As I went into the account I had a 10 pound bonus in the account, it hit me hard and I played the bonus After I played the bonus I forced myself to close the account before I would do something stupid and deposit money. I got the account closed and now I still have money. I felt disappointed in myself that I used the bonus but I'm glad it didn't force me to desposit my money.
Good Jade keep it up and stay strong
Hi Jadelouise96,
Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for your post.
I’m glad to read that you’ve taken some necessary steps to close your accounts, and also to Self-Exclude from various sites. The temptation to gamble is always there, but it’s for you to find that will power and walk away from gambling, and we can help you to do that.
Yes, you did use your bonus to gamble when your intension was to close the accounts. However, you managed to walk away with the money still in your pocket; that is one step forward, and you should be proud of yourself, and try and progress on that.
Gamcare is ready to help and support you in terms of advice on strategies, and can refer you for counselling if that would help you to stop.
To help you to go even further with your abstinence, I advise that you install one of our recommended software, which are:- Gamblock, Betfilter, and Net Nanny. Any of these software will stop you from accessing gambling sites. Thus even if you are tempted to gamble, you wouldn’t be able to do so.
Of course it would cost you some money but, that is nothing as compared to the amount of money you’d be losing if you don’t install any at all.
Please note that even if you close your accounts and self-exclude from various websites, you can still search the net when you feel desperate, find a new site, and gamble before you know it. The named 3 blockers above will prevent that happening to you.
Also, try and read as many posts as possible from our forum for ideas on strategies for stopping.
We can additionally, refer you to 12 sessions of free counselling, and nearest to where you live, if that would help you to stop.
Maybe you’d like to contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers. Our lines are open every day from 8.00am to midnight.
Keep up the good work, and please keep posting.
Best wishes,
Beatrice
