Hi,

Im 24 and currently living with my fiances parents, not due to gambling due to moving cities for work. My gambling has however prevented us from buying our first home. I was spending any avaliable money I had each month and just getting by, never saving even though I was telling family and friends that I was. My parents have lent me money to pay off my credit card and currently in the process of paying this back.

Since it coming out that I was gambling so much I have had the support of family and friends and luckily my fiance has forgiven me for it, I have blocked all gambling websites on my phone and computer which has helped a great deal, I just want to be able to do what I want with my money instead of wasting it on gambling sites.

One of the main reasons for the gambling was boredom and the thrill of winning, does anyone have any advice on how to prevent slipping back in to old habits?

Thanks.

Hi. I am going to approach this from another angle and say that you are fortunate to have the support of people around you so the best incentive to not gamble is not to abuse this support and the trust they have shown you. It may be a different story if you continue to gamble.Thinking about that is the best way to stop returning to "bad habits". I am sure at your age you can think of better ways to spend your time. Music, films, reading, exercise, joining a gym, just do whatever it takes to stay away from gambling.
