Mary,

Recovery is possible but it takes effort, commitment, action not lip service. You could learn from this, think about what went wrong and how to prevent it happening again. Downgrade your mobile to a non internet version, put blocking software on your laptop and desktop, brave the bank so that you have a cash card and not a visa. Better still, tell your family and ask someone to take over your finances.

Or you could find excuses not to do these things and compulsively gamble instead.

Your choice, your responsibility.

CW.

Hi CW I understand that it takes effort and god knows i've tried and beat myself up for my weaknesses. I have put blocking software on my laptop and my mobile. I don't have anything else in the house that i can gamble on and getting the support from this site is very helpful as there is a lot of good advice here. Because i've taken these step I am feeling a lot more confident that I can do this.

Hi Mary , Sorry to hear about your relapse , It's happened and you can't change that! but you can change what happens next, cant you ? . Nobody said it was going to be easy and everyone on this site feels at some point like going back to there old ways . But ultimately its your choice, to gamble or not ! . Doesn't matter how much stuff you put in the way , if you want to gamble there's always a way . But just think of the heartache that brought you here ! You don't want that for the rest of your life darling , do you ! . So put it behind you , don't beat yourself up and do what you set out to do ! Stop gambling ,Everyone's here for you ! to talk and support you when you need someone . So chin up and carry on !! You know you can do it ! Alan who will not gamble alongside Mary today !!

Thanks Alan. I think I'm beginning to understand the triggers more now. When I get lonely and drink wine my mental attitude changes and then I don't care and I would keep gambling until I can gamble no more. I realise i have to deal with my own issues to help beat this evil pull. I'm in the right mindset again and feeling more determined and taking inspiration from you and other folk on here as I know its not been easy for you all. Mary who won't gamble today along with all you brave people.

That's the spirit Mary , your now understanding what makes you want to gamble .! It shows that we have to change our routines and things we associate with gambling which will trigger us to bet , our minds have got used to doing things in a certain way and we all need to re program ourselves , in order to break the cycle . All the best Mary , Little steps !! Alan who will not gamble today !!

I have now been 23 days gamble free and it thanks to installing Gamware software. If I had not installed this software in times of weakness I would have went on line and gambled..that's for sure. Had a good few strong urges to gamble on line but couldn't do anything about it due to having this software. Perhaps as time passes and get stronger my own will power will stop me but this software has been my saving grace. It does cost to install it but ultimately it's saved me probably thousands of pounds...so well worth it.

Aw thanks Alan your praise means a lot to me. I hope you are staying strong. I love the feeling of calmness when not gambling and trying to chase losses. The stress and anxiety of gambling is dreadfull ..wasting good money to make ourselves feel ill. Life is to precious to go through it feeling like that.
