Hi All,

Long story short! I stopped gambling in 2013 have relapse a few times since that date.
What I am struggling with the most is handing over finance control! Present day, I have a great relationship, good job and not having a bet! What I struggle with now is money! I mean it's like Monopoly money to me. My other half control all the bills, to make sure they get paid. My money goes in each month and I give a set amount then I'm left with x amount for me! What I need help, hints and tips with is I never have any money left after about a week and a half. I just spend spend spend. I then have to wait until payday again. What my missus don't understand is why I spend all the time? Because I have a gambling nature money is just hard to keep.
Anyone got any advice on how I can overcome this? I know I should hand over the money and get sent some each week! But i struggle with the control thing.

Surely it’s better for someone to be in control...You certainly aren’t! Relinquishing your finances properly doesn’t have to be for ever...The further away from a bet you get, the more likely you are to start appreciating the value of money & maybe down the line you can start figuring it out for yourself. I have no hints or tips, I handed my money over & kept a joint credit card for emergencies that I would have been found out on if I’d used it to gamble (you could do the same with a pre-loaded card I believe) & it was the best decision I ever made. It’s been a long haul for me coming to peace with cash but I’m getting there. Good skills staying off a bet, don’t let spending become a new addiction. Keep working on fixing what is broken - ODAAT

You don't struggle with the control, you just want to gamble

Until you accept that you really dont have much hope of changing things

If you are going to gamble then work out what you can afford and stick to that - if you can't then you're an addict, like me, if so then you need to decide what you want from life

best wishes whatever you decide to do
