Hi Dls,

Welcome to the forum. You've taken the first step and all of us here are or were in the same boat.

The first thing you need to tell you self is that you will never win if you gamble...even when you win you will end up giving it back. Is there a hobby or something you can take up hat can keep you mind off gambling...even setting yourselves a goal to achieve something?

Hi dismith,

Welcome to the Forum!

You have taken a great first step by admitting to yourself that you have a gambling problem and by looking for support here. You descibe how difficult it is for you to stop gambling, how your mind keeps raltionalising that you keep going back to gamble more even though you know that it is not a way to make money but instead a way to spend more of it.

Going through a separation is difficult and unsettling. I wonder whether you have considered face to face counselling to help you through this and also to help you address your gambling problem?

Maybe you would like to contact us on the Helpline on 0808 80 20 133 or on the Netline http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/netline . Both services are open from 8am to midnight every day and an advisor could talk with you about practical strategies which can help you stop, as well as counselling services which are available in your local area. They can even make a referral for you straight away.

Again, welcome and keep in mind that you don´t have to do this on your own.

Kind wishes

Gabriele
