Hi Messed Up

You are planning on taking a different approach than I and many others would advise but as you say not everyone is the same and this is a forum for discussion. We can only advise based on our experience and what we have researched and learnt ourselves, you will make your own decisions.

What I would like to say is please stay on here and keep posting. I would hate to see you disappear and not stay on here just because you are proposing a different approach for yourself which is not getting a very positive response. Why not start a diary and we can all continue on this fight together? We all want the same thing and that is to stop gambling having a negative impact on our lives.

Good luck

Hi thanks for your understanding, my view is that because everyone is different, everyone has their own approach and one approach will not work for everyone of course.

I will aim to stay on here and keep updating my gambling habits/ lack of and still listen to others opinions as there's always new things to learn! I am currently about 5 days clean and to be honest I haven't visited a betting site once and not even thought about gambling. Everything is going great so far!

Kind regards!

Hi Messed Up,

Thanks for your response.

I've been 'clean' since 14th September last year so 4 and a bit months. Not the most established here by a long shot but it's been my longest period of recovery and I won't lie, a lot of it is down to coming here.

This isn't a criticism of yourself but when I first came here over a year ago for my 'first attempt' I was adament I was going to do it 'my way' and that I didn't need self-exclusion or complete abstinance, just a reality check and some control. I, like yourself, was greeted by a lot of (what I thought was) hostility but, retrospectively, it was from people who, like myself, had seen recovery attempted 'on my own terms' and witnessed it fail. So thankyou Cynical Wife etc. as ultimately, you were right.

I'm not going to say that controlled gambling can NEVER be achieved but from my experience and from those I've seen it hasn't worked.

Good luck, keep posting and wishing you well in your recovery.

Phil

Hey congrats man that’s good to hear! I hope to see you keep it up.

Thanks for the warning and I’m going to use that as even more motivation as to why I’m going to be successful:)

Now one week bet free I believe, slowly but surely racking that number up!!!
