Hi All

It has been very hard for me to sign up to this forum and finally admit I have a problem.

I started gambling when I was 18 playing poker at the local casino and can still remember driving home one evening so angry with myself because I lost £30!! Now I can lose £500+ without being bothered.

My biggest issue is casino roulette which somehow has this power over me and I can't stay off it. I don't think I'm an "addict" so to speak as I only gamble intermittently, however, when I do the "episodes" as I call them are affecting me financially.

I am meant to be saving up for a deposit for a flat with my girlfriend but the money keeps being utilised for said addiction to the roulette wheel!

I am a bit of an adrenaline J****E so I think it's the buzz of winning big amounts very quickly that gets me! Alcohol is also a problem as when I drink I get far more of a "draw" to the casino than normally which is horrid as there is one on my tube line home so easily accessible.

I have tried self exclusion before but it just hasn't worked as I've gone back after the 6/12m's, lifted the bans thinking I would be in far better control but no....same outcome!

Help.

Thank you

Hello there ItsANewDay and welcome to our Forum,

Well done for taking this brave step forward and admitted you have a problem. I am puzzled however by your statement “I don't think I'm an "addict"”. It is important to recognise that the problem is the gambling addiction as you describe clearly a few of its signs in your post. I would encourage you to read the information on our downloadable leaflets under the Advice section that would help you increase your awareness on gambling.

If self-exclusion has not worked for you it may mean that you need some support with it, as it is not easy to overcome the addiction on your own. We offer support and advice through our Netline and Helpline from 8am until midnight, 7 days a week. Perhaps you can take the next step forward and get in touch so you can put a recovery plan into place.

Best wishes,

Ana
