As I write this, I genuinely feel I have beaten the demons - theres no urge to put a note in the fobt, theres no urge to divert on my way home from work via a bookmaker, theres no urge to watch gambling videos on youtube - thats all gone but short-term im at rock bottom.
I have my mortgage coming out tomorrow and i am £500 short and no idea what to do. I have no family to ask and no real valuables to pawn. I am in full-time employment but i have just started a new job and missed the recent cut off for pay dates and feel physically at rock bottom as i literally cant afford to live.
I even looked at payday loans but during my gambling days I took out a lot of pay day loans and so i know they wont touch me - PLEASE HELP!
Contact the bank as soon as you can, explain your new job situation and i am sure they will cut you a bit slack until you get paid. DO NOT be tempted to try and win some money. If you are only late on one payment it shouldn't affect your credit rating. Stay on your non gambling path and contact the bank, if they say no deal then you can look at other options but ringing the bank has to be the first step as you may be panicking over nothing.
i have no urge to try and win the money - quite the opposite - but ive never been in this position before financially.
I already checked with the bank - nothing they can do at such short notice.
Thank you for your response. My issue is i have no other options and only 24 hours to try and sort.
Did they tell you what will happen if the payment defaults? In my old gambling non paying mortgage days i could usually get away with a month or 2 defaulting before things got too bad and they started hammering me for money.
I didnt ask to be honest - i just asked about options.
Thinking about it, im not sure why i wrote on here - im just looking for a release but I have no idea how to raise the funds in 24 hours.
Well i don't know about raising funds that quick but i do know in my old days i could default a payment and pick up a 35 quid charge and just catch up next month. Mat be different in your situation but that is what i used to do. As long as it doesn't involve a gamble it won't be such a bad thing.
Could your new place of work give an advance of part of wage? Or would your bank put on a reducing or temporary overdraft? That normally takes 48 hrs. I think you will need to contact your mortgage advisor as if your direct debit fails the last thing you want is for them to keep Calling for it or you will build up charges. Could you ask them for a payment holiday?
Hi Jamzie23.
You have to see that when the gambling stops other things get much better. Gambling was never the answer to financial difficulties.
If you are straight with your lenders there has to be some leeway. I know its stressful thinking about late payments but you can not let this worry you ill. You have to get on with appearing happy enough and relaxed at work.
The CAB are great to talk to as they have seen it all. To some extent you have to be glad of a job and take things the best that you can handle. There is no point making yourself mentally ill as that plays right back into gambling
I hope you have full blocks as there is no room for any complacency where gambling is concerned. I managed a month through fear but that wasnt any real test until I self excluded and had family monitor my progress.
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
