Hi all,

I'm not sure what to say really. I'm 34, married, have three young sons. I work part time and run my own business.

I started playing online slots when I was a student as a wayvof making money. I did it through cashback sites and only did ones where I would get back equal to or more than I deposited. I was totally in control. I then lost two grandparents in quick succession whilst I was pregnant with twins. I played online slots occasionally when I was awake at night and wanted to block out reality.

Hi Jha 1980,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your post too.

Sorry to hear that you lost 2grandparents in quick succession, and that bereavement escalated your gambling. You also admitted that you use online gambling as a form of escapism, a way of numbing the pain, I suppose.

However, you didn’t state where you are with your gambling now (whether in control or not), and the kind of support you’re seeking; be it some advice on how to stop or, some counselling sessions to help you come to terms with your loss, so you’ll be able to cope better without resorting to online gambling.

Well, gambling problems tend to maximise if nothing is done about it, and for that reason, I’ll suggest that you read about the following internet blocking software, and see whether it would benefit you to install one of them to stop you from accessing gambling sites. The software are:- Gamblock, Betfilter, and Net Nanny.

Maybe, you’ll also like to contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers for additional help and support, including 12 sessions of free counselling. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Thanks again for sharing your story, and pls. keep posting.

Best wishes,

Beatrice

Good to see you are looking for help. A diary is a great place to start. I personally was gambling to escape and hide things i didnt like with myself, reading here has helped immensly though i really recommend getting some councelling sessions or group sessions. Talking everything out and confronting the issues with other people makes it easier to get last them.

Great to see you are on here though and good luck.
