Hi scared 123,
Welcome to the Forum. I’m glad you’ve found the courage in deciding to give up your gambling today, and right here in the forum too.
You’ll find a lot of support and ideas in the form of strategies and boundaries, and also learn from others’ experiences so you can avoid getting into similar problems. Try and do your best to read the postings in the forum, and apply those strategies that people in similar situation like you have used to help them overcome or minimise their gambling addiction.
Gambling addiction gets worse if you don’t do anything about it, and it can get out of control rather easily.
Maybe, if you open up to your partner, and inform him you’re seeking professional help to stop your gambling addiction, and that you also need his support to overcome your addiction, he’ll realise the efforts and steps that you’re taking, and offer his support too.
It’s worth trying, and you’ve got a lot to gain if you stop now. Trying to chase your £50 or £60 a week will land you in deeper debts.
There’s also counselling support available to you if you think that will help you to overcome your addiction problem. We can offer you 12 sessions of free counselling if you can commit to once a week for 50 minutes at a place near to where you live.
Perhaps you may like to call our Helpline on: 0808 8020 133 where one of our specially trained advisers will listen to your concerns and advise, help and support you in variety of ways. We’re open everyday from 8.00am to 12.00midnight.
You can also choose to post here about how you’re managing your recovery, and ask for some more advice if you need to. I wish you all the best in you attempt to overcome your gambling addiction.
Pls. keep reading, and try and post as often as you can.
Take care,
Beatrice
