Hi there,

i started gambling since october last year, it's getting worse and worse and the sh*ttiest thing is that i can't seem to stop it, like I am a bystander and i cant control myself....i keep playing online slots on the internet.....for example couple of weeks ago i won 6000 euro but within half a week it was gone...

anyway my name is "Diluka", male 37, from the Netherlands, work in IT, have a pretty nice job....have a solid friend base, family, appartment, my life on track but for the past half year i got sucked into this gambling habit and I just cannot get it out of my system...i used to gamble only once every 6 months playing 20euro...but now i'm gambling almost every day, i keep convincing myself that i'm not going to do it anymore, that I will lose considerable amounts of money, that i'm stronger... well at least smarter than this stupig urge, but in some twisted way i keep looking for that thrill or "winning rush" if I make any sense, it is like doing drugs in a way, dopamine floods my brain when i'm playing slots....

i am diagnosed with ADD so that probably is where the tendency towards addiction derives from....

I just want to stop gambling, now, per today....i'm completely tired of it and I'm mad at myself for giving in to this urge, i'm hoping to post here, find some support and coping strategies, and maybe helping and supporting others in the way to my "recovery"..i feel a bit desperate and I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is I should do or has any advise on how to get me through, at least, the first couple weeks of not gambling....

Thanks and regards!

Hi diluka,

welcome to the Forum. Posting here is a good first step.

We also generally recommend blocking/limiting access to all three things you need to gamble: money, time and place. Starting with the venue via blocking software sounds like a good start. You will find information on blocking software here.

Read through some of the recovery diaries, you will find some good advice on here from others in a similar situation.

All the best,
