Gambling has taken everything from me. my family, my money, my self esteem, I cant sleep and all I think about is the 100k+ in debt I am.Â
How does one stop. What are the things we should do. Im really in need of help here
Hi Adam,
I too have lost well over 125k through gambling. First of all you have to WANT to quit, I have said it many times that I will quit for after a few weeks return to lose thousands more.Â
I am 10 days in on another journey, but a journey that has to be my last.Â
You have to put every ounce of determination, dedication & discipline into it or another relapse will occur.Â
Forget about the losses, that’s the past & you can change that, what you can change is your day to day steps for the future. Take one day at a time & beat this before it takes your soul.Â
We are all here to support youÂ

Best one I heard so far was a therapist who told me that I was alone on the football field with my ball. I could run to one goal or another. everybody else were only spectators watching on.Â
It is ultimately your call. You need to take the decisions to stop what you do or seek help to stop what you do. No one else is going to do it but you.
The pull of the game is your brain lying and the chemicals (dopamine) calling. You have a need for a dopamine hit and you are being called to go and get one.
You need six weeks to get your balance back. CBT is a great therapy form that help you think straight when it really matters. Ask the staff here to help you find the right contacts to take.

I wish you well!

Hi there mate what do you like in life? What makes you tick?Â
Hey,
We have all been there, spending money on gambling rather than buying essentials hoping to somehow win in all back. It has been 2 weeks since I made the first steps to recovery. Restricting all avenues that will enable you to bet is a must. I went to the doctors and got out on antidepressant. It doesn’t fix the problem but for me it has definitely helped me see a bit clearer. It might help you figure out your next steps. When I first spoke to someone on the phone about my gambling problem I just cried the whole time I was on the phone. It was such a relief so I did encourage you to get some sort of therapy, which can be organised through the chat on here. Stay strong and don’t let this take any more of you!!! You are worth more xx
