Hi, I've recently relapsed thinking that hey a small amount won't hurt and I might win ...the same old thought! Of course I was wrong and lost £240 of which I actually need. Now going into my credit card again to use what I need! Yes I'm upset and yes I feel worthless again. Especially since I've not gambled for 2 months and have been paying hard on my debt! Stupid me hey! What I would like to know how many times have you relapsed? And when you relapse is the spend less? I'm really sick of doing this..am I psychologically damaged????? So annoyed at lying to myself saying putting £20 onto a match won't hurt...but when you lose, you just want to go back and win it back..chasing again.

Hello,

Don't worry you are not alone with this one...me personally I now lost count on the number times I relapsed and each time I felt worse than the last time regardless how much relapse has cost me financially...the reason is simple I did not put enough barriers for me to stop...what you need to do is cut your loses now. .you won't see that money again ever...cut access to money is possible...hand over your finances to someone you know..until the debt is cleared and beyond...the pain will ease if you take it day by day and normality will resume if you act now...don't wait until the next time..like I always did...you will only win if you stop..

Alright, exactly the same as the others who have commented. I have relapsed countless times the most recent being just before new year. Just like donas1979 said if you continue to make the mistakes reaching out to a close one to take the money responsibility off you helps you keep control. ( I'm no one to talk I have all this in place and lied to get access to the money I wanted to gamble) keep strong though we all make mistakes sometimes really expensive one's!! What you need to remember is spending another £240 will probably end in you spending £240 and not in the huge win we all foolishly dream of!!

Hi All

i have relapsed countless times, i am now 26 and have had a gambling addiction since i was 16 and it has made me do things that make me feel sick when i think about them. I relapsed for the first time in a year, since my we boy was born, i feel so disapointed in myself, i spent £300 and it is alll the money i have. i have told my partner who new i was gambling by my mood and the nervousness when on my phone. I have self excluded myself from any excess i have had to gambling online and handed back over my bank card again. I am completely gutted about this relapse and just hope i can come back stronger. As Downes14 says if you stay strong you will get through this, time is a great healer if you can keep control, unfortunately for me i let my guard down!!!

Quite a few "im never gambling again" then going straight back to it when i had funds again.
Since actually resolving to quit and get my life back, twice. One werkend long blip about 3 months clean and about 6 months ago I fell back into fobt's. Which is why im back on here, share support and pack them in again and for good.

After 251 days, I have finally give into my addiction and placed a bet. I feel so disgusted with myself, lost a small amount if money. Feel completely lost. Really thought I had beat it this time.

Just the once after 67 days of being gamble free. Spend was higher, but was worth it as it helped me get my blocks and barriers stronger. On 229 days now with not a single urge. Have had the opportunity to gamble countless times in that time, you just cannot escape it sometimes (eg motorway services, pub, holiday!)

Just imagine what if. You never win from gambling long term, and it sucks more than your money. Life is better without it!

Hi,

I can proudly say none in 7 months. Not bragging, I just want to thank my GA meetings for this. I know without them I would not have had the 90 days to aim for (plus the GA pen), then my personal 6 month goal. A mental blocker for me is the fear of knowing it wouldn't be the one bet. Like the opening post a "safe" £20 bet turned out to be £240, that was me and could be me again. We all started out with the safe fun bets but look where it took us. No way do I want to enter that vicious circle again. Its never far away. Like the last post "life is better wihout it", d**n right. My families lifes are better too and I'm a better person to them and myself.

I admire people on this forum and in GA meetings regarding their honestly about a relapse. I believe this honestly will make you stronger and help in the start of ones recovery again. We weren't honest as gamblers, far from it! Therefore after a relapse having this honesty tells me the CG has already learned from their mistake.

All the best.

Everyone's relapsed hence being addicts.

I used to relapse every month for 14 years -tell myself never again after $pun-king away my wages each month.

You also asked if you're psychologically damaged. Unequivocally yes, you are. Being an addict is irrational and self - defeating. Signs that your mind is damaged.

Good news is you can repair. But the answer doesn't lie within your own damaged mind. You need to do things differently. Your way hasn't worked. Get out your comfort zone and deal with the underlying. Addiction is only.a symptom.

If you have the urge to gamble try and remember that feeling of the loss, hopefully this will help avoid a relapse. It's the worst feeling in the world when you lose or relapse. But dont beat yourself up. You can do this 🙂

Thanks for your posts, I hate the way gambling makes me feel, I really want this to be my last ever relapse, I'm scared that if it happens again it might have a serious impact on my mind, I just about am dealing with my latest relapse. Just found out this week that my girlfriend is expecting, this will be our second child. I really hope I find the strength to beat this disease.

Into my 4th day without gambling, my head is clearing a bit. Long journey ahead but I know I have it in me to do this.

I used to relapse about once a week/month for 20 years! But I now realse I never really quit for very long, mostly just didn't have any money left to play with.

I find the more times you try and the harder you try, the longer you are clean. I think the longer and more serious the problem, the more likely the relapses are.

Now I plan in case they happen with actual physical actions like snapping cashcards and self-exclusion. Before I would see my world through rose-tinted glasses and think 'sod-it, will all be fine, think positive etc.'
