Hi Friends
I had a post few weeks back here where I had committed that I lost 50-55,000£ betting in just 6 months. I was able to stay away from betting for 10 days but suddenely yesterday I blew away 5000£ of borrowed money on a single bet!!!! I feel like hanging myself now...
Has anyone lost this big amount after promising to stay away from gambling? The world is spinnin g around me, how do I recover in the new year? Though I still have a job but it will take me so many years to recover what I have lost. How do I forget the loss and try not to bet again.

Hi Mjm, good to see you posting again, sad to see that it isn't in better circumstances my friend.
This is what I advised you previously:
What I mean by that is, if it made you never gamble again, then it might be a drop in the ocean compared to what you would spend if you carried on for the rest of your life. Think of it, think of all that you have been through if you ever feel tempted to gamble again - do you want it to be the defining point in your life where you said "Enough is enough", or do you want it to remain a very painful memory, in a long list of life-long painful memories?
I lost around £350,000 in twenty years of gambling, but have stopped for almost six years. When I stopped, I decided that I would never add to that figure, and use it to propel me to do more than I ever would beforehand - every interview, every doubt, every time I need strength I use it to push me on. Since stopping, I do charity work, sing, write, go hiking and so much more - there are times when I am down, there are times when I am less focused, so I think of that figure and use it to force myself to make an effort to continue on this good path.
It is hard to add more to that - this £5000 could be another in a long line of painful memories; it is in your hands to make it mean something my friend.
The thing with slipping is recognizing it and then trying not to let it snowball - this is often very difficult because relapse is a crushingly, desperately emotional experience; seeing your hard work unravel in front of you can be feel like your world is about to end.
The bottom line is that you need to be more proactive my friend. Both of your posts have said about what you have lost and how you have lost it, but no mention of how to tackle the situation head-on. Self-exclude, place blocking software in place, go to GA, think about counselling - if you truly want to recover in the new year, then there has to be some weight behind it.
I hope you can my friend. That money can be the best investment you can ever make in your future if you stop now; if not, then it will mean nothing, and it will continue to haunt you. Think about that every single, solitary time you are tempted.

Thank you very much for your replies, it really helps when people reply with a positive attitude. Another positive thing is that today is the last day of 2013 and I have made a promise to myself that I won't make a single bet next year and further. I hope that I will come back on this forum next year on the 31st saying that I didn't game a single day in 2014 & have saved this much of money.
Thanks everyone, pray that I be strong next year. Happy New Year.

Good luck Mjm I wish you all the best 🙂
It's not the amount fella I've done 10 fold of that in 2 bets but there the sort of things you don't talk about its an addiction not how much one can lose
