Hello,
I’ve just gambled half my wages away! I’m a 36 year old, mother of two with a normal life! No one has any idea that i’m a secret gambler! ive got a bit of credit card debt but i’m not in huge trouble, I have a good job, I just waste all of my money (and time) gambling and need and want to stop! Sorry for rambling on... I feel much better already for being on here, and any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Hi
Welcome to the forum and well done for taking the step to recognise you need to stop.
You will see from many other posts that gambling thrives on secrecy - so the first step is to starve this habit from tha. Tell a close family or friend - husband if that is an option. Second, whilst you work out why you gamble (maybe talk through with the helpline), handover you finances to some you trust - so you physically don’t have the money , transfer your wage out and only asked to be given amounts to use on a daily basis. If you gamble on line then download the software to block sites and self exclude. I would the also try focus on saving for something special - maybe a special holiday with your kids, and always think about how the money saved would help you to achieve that. Think about how much fun you and your family would have. Also keep posting on the forum - you will get lots of support here. Good luck
Thank you 🙂
Feeling a bit sad today but relieved!I know I need to tell my husband, it’s just finding the words to explain it too him which i’m struggling with, and I know i need to work out what it is I get from gambling... I think it’s avoiding the pressures of life, it started when I wason maternity leave with my first child, so probably something related to that. Thank you for your warm welcome!
