Hi I'm new to this website. I have, for a long time, had a problem with roulette, online and bookies.

It's gotten out of hand and I can never ever stop myself. I play roulette every day in one way or another, spending money that I really haven't got just to hear that little ball spinning around the wheel. The rush when I first started winning was indescribable. Now when I win my head starts doing figures to try and work out how much more I need to win just to break even that day/week/month. It's not uncommon for me to get up to 600 on a machine or site then continue because it wasn't enough, until it was inevitably all gone. I won 2900 on a site Saturday just gone and after withdrawing and receiving my funds Monday I can regretfully admit that close to half has gone back in three days.

I've found this site and I need help. I can't go on lying to my girlfriend and my family... It's killing me inside to not having anyone to talk to about my problem. I'm physically exhausted with the stress of consistent money problems and the heartbreak of thinking of the money I have lost when I should be out with my girlfriend or enjoying the money that I have worked very hard for.

I can say that I am lucky that I am currently debt free, the money I've ever gambled has always been my wages. I get paid monthly and struggle to make it to week three with money in my account.

FYI . I have already voluntarily excluded myself from any sites I am a member of. I read in a thread of ways to block gambling sites altogether and I will be proceeding to do that. I'm glad I have found this site, just reading some of the posts has really made me feel better slightly, the success stories and all the support through fellow members on this site I hope will help me achieve my non gambling lifestyle. Thanks,

Kad

Thank you for your reply! It's so difficult I know. I hate it. I love it. I hate that I love it.i need to stop now before things get more out of hand than they already are. I've been reading so many threads on here and I can say that all the wise words are going to help me. I saw this somewhere on a post and I'm going to say it every time I think of gambling.

So true. Thanks to whoever wrote it.

I CANNOT WIN BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP

and

I DID WIN BECAUSE I DID STOP

I feel confident that this will wake me up when I start thinking of betting.

Hi Kad,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting here.

It seems like you just haven’t got a gambling problem, but you have a gambling addiction problem. This means that you’ve no control of the amount of money you use in gambling, and you also can’t stop yourself from gambling, and this must be a rather frustrating situation for you as deduced from your post.

Gambling addiction is such a difficult thing to try and overcome it by yourself; you need professional help to do that. It’s also like a vicious cycle - the more you gamble, the more you lose, and the more you chase your losses.

I’m glad that you find our forum very useful and informative, and that some of the stories you read from there is helping you to feel better in yourself.

You’ve also done well by taking the necessary steps to self exclude from named gambling sites so as to stop yourself from gambling.

I’ll even encourage you to go further; to block yourself from gambling sites indefinitely!

It’ll be beneficial to you to let go of all your losses now (you can’t get those monies back), and focus on your recovery, so you can look to a future of leading a gamble free life.

I’m again encouraging you to do your best and stay in touch with us so you can reach for further help and support when you need it, and also follow our advice on strategies and boundaries.

Perhaps it’ll be advisable to contact our free phone Helpline on 0808 8020 133 and speak to one of our specially trained advisers. Our advisers will discuss your gambling problem with you, and they’ll also help and advise you on how to go about your recovery process. They can even offer you 12 sessions of free counselling if you think that will help you to overcome your gambling addiction.

I wish you all the best in your efforts to overcome your addiction problem.

Thank you once again for your post, and please try and post as regularly as you can.

Kind regards,

Beatrice
