I know I am a cumulative gambler and about a year ago I went to GA and got the help I needed I got my debts down from 5k to 2k and hadn't gambled for 6 months. The turn of the year I started to find myself going back into bookies and slowly but surely onto the FOTB. Which I'm sure everyone knows is the crack C*****e of the gambling world.

I've not only put myself back in not worse off then I've ever been, I'm 7k in debt and I don't know how to tell my girlfriend that I'm gambling huge sums of money away. I feel embarrassed and absolutely depressed at what I have done. At the moment everything looks really bleak the money is going to take years to pay back and that's if I never gamble another penny.

Today I walked past a bookie and I got that excited feeling inside me an hour or so later I'm down nearly £800. Looking like one of those mental people screaming and hitting a machine. This last month has been the worst of my life in 4 weeks I think I've lost close to £2000 .

My girlfriend is the only one aware I have a huge problem and I am s******g a brick at the prospect of telling her how bad I've got!

Hi James Hope your ok!

Me too like yourself Loves that feeling you get when you have a win! Gambling is somthing I wish I was never introduced to!!You've got to tell your girlfriend before you do more, you need the support, yes she might be cross at first but the longer it's left the worse it will get. Really hope you kick this habit again you've done it before you can to it again

Hi James, know the feeling all too well, I'm amazed at how many sign ups this site has, means there are lots of people doing the same. The amounts are different and the type of poison can also be variable but the underlying horrible feelings, lies, losses all seem universal. Keep fighting and I am hoping to see all of us progress from this starting point or re-starting point.

James, I'm sure many of us can relate. The important thing now is to not panic. Your head will be like mush. You won't be thinking straight. Just take one day at a time right now. Best of luck.

Hi James

Welcome to the forum

You mentioned that at the start of the year you experienced a relapse which left you feeling embarassed and depressed. I would like to encourage you to continue with your GA sessions for ongoing support. Then possibly have a think about whether you feel counselling on a one to one basis might be of help. If you would like some free counselling you can contact our helpline Advisers on 0808 8020 133 for more information.

You may already have some professional support with reducing your debts. However if you do need further advice, support and guidance try looking at the advice section on this site (as linked below)
