Hello Theonlywayisup,

I've just been having a read through your posts and it made me think of the question asked in meetings sometimes. Are you thriving or surviving?

Second question, if you wanted to gamble tomorrow, could you? If no, then great, if yes, what could you do to ensure you can't?

Hi Chris

I particularly like your second question. If every single one of us on here, whether we have been GF for 5 hours or 5 years, asked ourselves this question honestly and did something about it we could save ourselves a lot of pain.

I often try to think to myself, how would my gambling irrational self behave rather than today's rational version, as it is the gambling version of myself that I need to most protect myself from.

Hi Muststop123,

Thanks for the reply. I was asked a similar thing in a slightly different way, About a year or so into my recovery I was talking about Gamstop to a new member (of my GA group) and extolling the virtues of it, when after the meeting someone said to me if I had it. I hadn't signed up to it and after a year off I thought I didn't need it. But, the thought stuck with me and I had relapsed many times previously, particularly online, so I thought why not. It's no good me giving advice unless it's through my own experience and how it's benefited me, so I signed up to it for the five years. I see it as another block to overcome should the urge get too strong.

It's something to think about for everyone and helps overcome complacency.

Chris.

478 days done. Just logged in to read my opening post again. I find it’s good to look back every now and again to keep me on track.

If there is anyone reading this that needs to hear it, you can do it. Life is so much better gambling free. I can go weeks now without thinking about gambling. So much better for my mental health.

Some home truths by Joydivider and others on here really helped. Thank you everyone.

Now to get to 500 and beyond!
