Best advice i could give is get the blocks in place as soon as possible, download blocking software if you bet online or if you bet in the bookies self exclude, i have had quite a few attempts at quitting after big losses and chasing and while only 54 days gf this time with the blocks i now have in place, when i do get the urge to gamble it is impossible for me to do so, also you need to find things to fill your time, reading, boxsets, going to the gym anything really to take your mind off gambling....plenty more good advice on here, have a read through other peoples diarys and even start one of your own, i have found it does help ....All the best mate its not easy but you can do it 🙂

Hey danieljosh,

Deffo get yourself self excluded for the maximum time you can (NOT just time-out) from as many places as you can. It can be time consuming but it is one of the best tools to stop urges.

I suffer quite badly with depression myself so I would gamble on horses/football to shut off from the world, my emotionally difficulties or even just because I was bored or sad etc

Sometimes if I was on a winning streak, I would feel better BUT I would ALWAYS lose everything I won end up feeling horrendously even more depressed and often when I lost everything, suicidal. Its no way to live is it mate? For me, even two days in, I already feel a little better about myself. I'm not naive enough to think I don't need to work hard at this though, there obviously no magic solution. I just wake up everyday and decide not to gamble today and that's working so far.

You really can do this, and life can be so much better. Keep busy doing things you enjoy/keep writing on the forum/give Gamcare a call/go to a meeting/tell someone close to you.
