Hi all – just logged in for first time.
I play roulette fairly casually. I don't have a gambling problem and no Im not in denial. But I understrand the issue and addictive nature of all gambling and how it effects and rewires the brain.
Just thought I'd pop in to read people views on FOBTs with it being the hot topic of late.
Hi Andy,
Any form of gambling is bad for compulsive gamblers, FOBTs are a hot topic as they seem to be aimed at compulsive gamblers as who else would really sit in a bookies and play roulette for £100 a spin. Basically we live in a culture where gambling is socially acceptable yet a recent survey has shown there may be as many as 400,000 problem gamblers in the UK, more ad more we read stories about people with average jobs who gamble savings ore steal from companies to feed their habit etc.
Most regular gamblers do it for fun or to try and win some decent money, but the difference is they can stop. The golden rule when it comes to betting is 'Only bet what you can afford to lose', compulsive gamblers can never follow this as we can never stop. We dont want their to be no gambling for people, but we do need to have this industry properly regulated to protect the problem gamblers out their as lives are being destroyed every day by this compulsion.
