Afternoon all.

In previous years of my life I have been battling a gambling addiction and took the necessary actions to stop myself. This included self restriction and keeping myself busy at work and at the gym which helped me massively. I haven't gambled for 3 years.

In the last 6 months I have got into the stock market after being reccomend by a friend. This hasnt gone as planned and I have lost my life savings ( 23 years old ) 9k by chasing my losses and by being impatient. The money was a deposit for mine and my girlfriends first home . I am now down to my last £100 and feel hopeless.

Please could someone give me some advice.

Yes.

Abstain. Sorry for your loss but you are gambling and that will not help you if you are an addict regardless of what instrument you use for it. Chasing losses is like looking for a new petrol station so you can give your car more fuel to let it ride. It is horrible that the money is gone but it will not come back. Face that fact sober and your brain will start thinking about healthy ways of getting yourself income. Unsober gets you back to addiction square one again.

Use this place to get more help. We can not do this alone and that is why you are here.

Most of what we do is on autopilot. The subconscious is stronger than the conscious and you can only beat that by being mindful so you can be aware of decisions you take. Look up some easy lessons on mindfulness. It may sound like hocus pocus but it does help a lot.

All the best. Stay strong.
