Hi, I've always been a gambler and always pretty much worked to fund gambling, mainly roulette online. I'd never spend the amount I do in real life but typing figures in online feels like nothing.

Anyway, I finally won big a couple of weeks back. About 18,000 altogether in a few days. I felt on top of the world and couldn't be happier, thinking of everything I can spend money on.

I borrowed 1.7k off my mum to book my girlfriend a holiday while the money went into my account. I got back a couple of days ago, went on roulette once the money went in my account and lost every single penny of it. 18k altogether gone!!!!

I don't know how to cope, I now have no job, can't pay my mum her debt back and darent tell her. I have bills that need to be paid too but again no money or income for them!!

How do I get myself out of this mess and get over the fact I've lost well over a years wage in money?? Bearing in mind I can't tell my mum as I lost my dad a couple of months back to cancer so I darent tell her in fear of what it would do to her.

Im not eating, got no energy to do anything, no money to do anything and my girlfriend pretty much hates me for what I've done!! Im in a pretty bad place and just keep breaking down.

Thanks

Hello Monkey20

Welcome to the forum.

The forum is a great place for support and advice from people who understand and are both here to and want to help you.

I'd recommend you start by giving the GamCare helpline a call. They have trained advisors who will be able to help you.

Getting over gambling losses is a perennial problem for people with a gambling addiction. Putting blocks in place to stop yourself from gambling and seeking help from counselling, CBT, GA or support groups are all good ways to help deal with your addiction. It's about making changes and finding something that works for you.

Give GamCare a call, get some ideas of how to move forward and it might not seem like it now but slowly things will improve.

Best wishes

Glint

Hello Monkey20,

It sounds like you've had a difficult time recently with your bereavement and your gambling problem. As you've posted that you have no energy or appetite and keep 'Breaking down', you might want to talk with your GP about how the losses and stresses you've experienced might be impacting on your emotional and physical well-being.

As Glint has mentioned, you are welcome to call an adviser on the National Gambling Helpline freephone 0808 8020 133 for emotional support and for information on local resources for your recovery from problem gambling, including free therapy services.

Take care,

Forum Admin.

Hi all thanks for the replies!

Still feel absolutely rock bottom and not sure what to do with myself. Lost a further £110 since I made this post which shows I've still not learnt my lesson!!

I seem to be sucked into it big time and there's nothing I can do. Still cannot believe I made such a big loss in one night though. Not sure how to get over that one.

Just thought it would be ideal to have a chat with someone like you that can relate to everything im feeling. I'm not worried but one of my friends is borrowing me 2k to pay my mum back without her knowing and leave me with a couple of hundred to get me by for now, but I'm worried as soon as I put it in my bank I'll be back on the roulette.

She expected the money back the other day and I came up with some excuse to prolong it a few more days. I wouldn't gamble the 2k I would pay my mum back straight away, it's the rest of the money I'm concerned about what I'll do with it. Maybe withdraw it out of my bank account so I can't just gamble it? Bearing in mind I only ever gamble online

Not really in the position to tell my mum at the minute if I'm honest but I do want to break this habit! I'd have been in a much better place if I stopped while I had a decent amount of money like I had a few days back but in reality was that ever going to happen? I'm trying my best to get a job but it's going to kill me having to go to work for wel over a year to get that money back. If you don't mind me asking how are you financially now?
