Hi I am to gamcare I have been gambling for 4 years now but its the last 12 month or so its become a problem I am spending money I don't have and advice on how to stop and take control back.
Hi jtlaw. Welcome to the forum. You have taken the first crucial step jsut by being here.
Next is to start putting barriers in place to prevent you from rationalising your betting to allow you to continue. Self-exclusions are key. If online gambling is part of your problem then sign up to GAMSTOP www.gamstop.co.uk
GAMSTOP currently includes a large number of online gambling websites (but not all). Later this year, all online gambling websites will be required to join by the Gambling Commission. Until then you can register early with GAMSTOP, which will exclude you from the gambling websites that have signed up already. If you notice some that are not on the list on the website then individually self-exclude from as many as possible.
Others will give more pointers but for me this is a pretty big step if you are serious about quitting.
Other than that, don't try to fix everything straight away. Take time to breathe, sleep and eat if possible. Go for walks, clear your head. Doing one positive thing a day helps you start to feel better about things and not pile too much pressure on yourself that will lead you back to gambling.
TM.
