Im just 4 days free from gambling...new to the site

Im defo done with gambling iv hit absolute rock bottom - i reached the end of myoverdraft..and then some

Iv decided to apply to extend the overdraft - which wuld give me abit of breathing space to get my life back on track

My question is - the application is very short and just asks for monthly income and my rent amount (if i pay it) So my question is how doi calculate this? Im a stay at home mum, my partner earns the wage (not my LO dad) i get benefits & CM into my account then my other basically just gives me whatever i need to cover bills and food. I could say i dont pay rent and get OH tp pay direct? I could maybe get the CM in cash if i asked... I just dont know what to do for the best. I presume immore likely to be accepted for the overdraft the more money i have that goes into that account?

Hi intoodeep

I would say being rejected is actually a positive... if its really bad with the fees you can contact the bank who will put a hold on the fees while you sort out where to go next. Like stepchange, who can help you with your finances too. Thats who i’m with now and they are really good. More debt isnt the answer and ive experienced just made things worse for me..

Its a good thing that it was rejected, you are 4 days gambler free which is great but having access to funds is very dangerous right now. If your struggling with debt you should contact Step change who can help a lot. You should also go to your nearest GA meetings, other compulisve gamblers will have been in similar shoes to yours so will be able ot offer advice.

The card is dangerous no matter what, I would seriously consider how much of a risk it is, because casinos and bookmakers machines allow you to go into unauthorised overdrafts, that is why these places screw you over.

I have left my card far away from me for now, at least I can't gamble now. I nkow that when things improve I have no problem having my card one me, but while I am a "gambling phase", I know I can't trust myself.

Ideally you need to have a courageous conversation with your partner. You need him to take control of your finances.

Open a basic bank account with another bank, one which will not allow overdrafts etc, for future banking.

Speak to Stepchange about your existing debt, and work out a plan to repay over time.

I wish you the very best of luck!

Thankyou for your responses....iv just done the debt remedy thingy through stepchange and its told me my outgoing is more than my income (which is because my partner pays for most things.... he pretty much already took control of finances...he use 2 give me a big amount on payday and now he asks what bills are going out and gives me specifically the amount. That wont work anymore tho because of how overdrawn i am. Does that make sense?

Stepchange just said offer creditors a token £1 payment. Im still on the page reading about it. Im unsure how it relates to a bank account - surely i am just going to keep getting a daily charge? Upto the max monthly charge

My head hurts

Hi intoodeep.

So basically stepchange look at what’s affordable to you and advises you from there. If you’re getting a lump sum from your partner you can do something called a ‘debt management plan’ which instead of a token payment to your creditors it is more of an arrangement to rectify/settle the accounts. Its good.

And not necessarily, most banks freeze interest and charges when people are in financial difficulties but looking to resolve them. I’d highly recommend giving stepchange a call instead of online, they explain all this much better than I have!

your credit rating will be shot as a result of the above...but most on here including myself see that as a good thing. No credit. No debt. I wish you the best of luck πŸ™‚
