I’ve made a petition – will you sign it?
My petition:
Internet & Mobile Internet Providers to have an online gambling blocking option
Gambling, and most recently common, online gambling is one of the worlds biggest additions and the result of high levels of suicides within the world. At present, there are no ways to restrict addicts from accessing these websites on their mobile internet without applying a full Parental Block.
Mobile providers should take responsibility that addicts cannot restrict themselves from gambling without restricting them from using their mobile data from accessing any apps or internet sites that are deemed 18+. Online gambling has hundreds of different sites and thousands of adverts on our TV every day. Bring addicted to gambling can ruin lives - but more seriously, can result in the loss of life. Internet / Mobile providers need to allow a gambling restriction option NOW.
Thank you x
i will sighn but while my kids use internet on home wifi with bt i can block gambling and lots of things
Hi AJ88
Well done on this your bang on , we are in 2017 technology is razor sharp and the gaming industry has never been more profitable thats why so many new ones as everyone wants a piece of the pie and no one cares about the human consequences when vulnerable addicts gamble there mortgage or rent or savings or get into debt in a matter of minutes on a spin of a virtual game , it DOES ruin you and you can count on my signature , i just hope by 2020 heavy regulation is in place
ill make my personal stand to totally stop , GA and councilling and BLOCKS are a start but im battling a very complex and powerful addiction i know that
Hi AJ88,
All your points are valid, and we can certainly understand your frustration with online gambling as it relates to mobile providers. However, as we're an independent charity this is not the place to organize political action and we've unfortunately had to edit your post. Our forum is here to focus on personal recovery, first and foremost, and to support anyone affected by a gambling problem. Here's a link to the forum etiquette for review: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/chatroom/chatroom-and-forum-etiquette#.VEEgk_ldXww
We really do understand how frustrating this issue can be for many forum members. Taking this stance does not mean we are siding with the gambling industry in any way, we are just abiding by our remit to continue providing what we hope is a good service for all of you.
If you'd like to chat with us further about your gambling, feel free to call us on either the Helpline or Netline using the contact info at the top of the screen and we'd be happy to help however we can.
All the best,
Forum Admin
Aaaah right...just looked at the etiquette .....we cannot:-
I'd have signed it but I guess the site has to be impartial. Pity.
we all know this site is sponsered by the main bookies and gaming operators so they not going to accept public lobbying against there business and its a;; fairness its a great forum full of a lot of wise and lovely recovery addicts and free councilling can,t be sniffed out but prob best to use facebook or twitter to lobby
Surely Gamcare can only class itself as an independent charity when its funding comes from sources other than the gambling industry?!
hi lethe
im not sure maybe the goverment subsides it too but i heard from a member here this was set up by the gaming industry , maybe so they can have a better conscious when they go to sleep at night about raking in millions and millions each year
ill probably get banned now lol
Whose heard of the Portman Group? "Promotes" responsible drinking, advertising and products. Who funds it mostly - 90 per cent of the big drink companies. What you going to do? GamCare is partly paid for by the companies in my understanding but there is nothing we can do about that but concentrate on our recovery and disregard what some would see as corporate "hypocrisy". Phil
Hi Joe and Phil
Both spot on there. PR pu ff for the industry but who else is going to fund it?
Affected by gambling?
