Hi i have just signed up to gamcare.
I have had problems over the past 10 years with gaming machines at book makers. I dont have any online accounts as this is not an issue anymore but machines in shops are.
I am going to self exclude myself from each one in my town on monday and give my mum my bank card and she only gives me money when i need.
I have had sleepless nights for years always waiting for pay day. I make a decent wage each month and its always spent with 2 weeks to go until next pay day.
I know many people is going through what i am and i want to know what advice and professional help they have seeked. Did you local GP help you at all?
thanks for any feedback and hope you are all winning your battle with gambling its a horrible disease
Hi and welcome to the forum.
The fobt in the bookies was also my downfall and there are lots of posts and diaries which will help your journey.
I gave up access to finances (cash and cards) for a good period of time. No cash / card = no gamble. If I needed money I was given what was needed but had to provide receipts to the penny.
I also got 12 free counselling sessions from Gamcare.
I am not going to bombard you with info. Just try and take one day at a time and keep posting
Best wishes
hi mate i would like to know more about how you overcame this problem and tell me more if you don't mind

Hi,
Mainly by carrying little or no money for 6 months which was really difficult at first. Not being able to buy a coffee or food or anything needed and leaving my wife to take control of all the finances. Eventually this became the habit as visits to the bookies could become no more.
Embracing recovery through counselling and GA and diving into recovery 100%.
I have debt but Stepchange are helping with that.
Family support also helps as does launching into recovery. If you want to stop you can. It takes a lot but it is possible with determination.
Putting barriers in place. Avoiding bookies, excluding, carrying no money all mean you can't gamble.
Best wishes
.
the barrier working for me is only being able to withdraw cash by going in the branch and showing ID. do not have a card, and you dont want telephone or internet access either to ensure you dont move money around... and when you go to work, leave your id at home too....
my downfall is the roulette machines as well...the crack C*****e of gambling, all the numbers adding up to the devil 666...
Affected by gambling?
