Serious Problem

Hi I am new to this site, I have been gambling for 6 years but for the last year I have spiralled out of control. It started when I was playing online, I found it loads easier and way more addictive, for me it just didn't feel real. I inherited money from family and was meant to save it for a house car ect. But I ended up blowing it ALL online. I had chances to withdraw and stop but I always wanted that little bit extra. My partner knows I lost everything and I am scared she will leave me. I want this to be the end of it. For my sake, her sake and the sake of our future. I know it won't be easy for me as for now I will be thinking about the money I had and how I want that money back. I understand I need to put a line under it and forget the money I have lost, it is just hard when you keep getting reminders in your head of what you had and what you now have. I need help guys

Hey wazza your story sounds familiar. Like you Ive had my head destroyed through on line gambling but I'm making progress. Try not to think of what you have lost as painful as it is you ain't going to get it back as its gone.

From experience the only way things can get better is through not gambling at all, but this poses a problem when you cant stop yourself from placing that first bet or making that first deposit onto an on line account.

I've just come across a great bit of software which is helping me. for £20 I'm blocked from any on line gambling activity. The added bonus if you pardon the pun is one it is installed it cant be removed off your computer. TXNoGam is working for me plus I'm going to GA. hope this is of some help.

Hi wazza - You've made a great start to kicking this soul-destroying habit by joining this site.

Try to log on at least once a day and read the postings - you will see that you are not alone as everything you are feeling is shared by many of us. The previous poster has some good advice - use a blocking software to come between you and the sites. I haven't tried the one suggested: K9 (free) is another. In the meantime self-exclude from every site that you have used. Best wishes for the journey.

another recommendation for ' TXNogam ' at £20 it costs a lot less than other blocking software, if you google it you will find it. Other steps are to cancel your credit cards & overdrafts & only keep enough in your current account(s) to cover your direct debits (or pay them early) ; no funds to use with debit cards = no ability to gamble online.

Hi thanks for the great advice. I have downloaded K9 and using that. I haven't thought about gambling since. The only thing I am trying to fix now is my relationship, I understand I can't get the money back. But I need to prove to myself and my partner that I can kick this habit and start saving my earnings for our future
