Hi thought i would come on here try and write a diary simply to keep my mind focused on the goals ahead...

usual story that compares to many, addicted to roulette and fobt, have been for 10 years, no one knows accept fellow addicts in the shops, i have taken various steps and self excluded from all online facilities which is great help, and plan to do the same this week for all the local bookies... Take away the craving can be the only option... I can go for long periods without doing it then payday comes and its the same routine, the only way you win is by not doing it... Currently 4 days in, full of hope as usual, but a real determination this time round, to much to lose!!!!

got told before that a diary is a good way of achieving small targets and goals, provides a determination and a realisation of how far u can go... Stay tuned fingers crossed

Hi Scott and welcome to the forum :))

It appears we have or had the same poison , Fobt's and roulette :((

I've gambled for more years than I care to remember and never thought of myself having a problem until a few years ago when I started my relationship with the dreaded machine's which then led me to playing roulette in the casino's and onto a massive downwood spiral many years on and about 10k in debt I came here almost 13 months ago and haven't had a bet since and it was the best decision I ever made as lifes just great again :)).

It's always a good idea to get your time, money , location triangle sorted out as a first step ( remove one and you can't gamble ) and I can see youv'e already started by self excluding which removes the location , the money can be sorted in many ways either by handing over financial control to someone you trust or maybe by reporting your bank card lost and when the replacement arrives scratch off the 3 digits on the rear , if your gambling online there's also blocking software you can install to your laptop , ipad , phone K9 is a free one or net nanny and gamblock are available to purchase and gamcare will be able to advise you more if you contact them .

It's never easy giving up something that's become such a big part of our live's and stopping gambling and coming into recovery is bespoke but I think the thing that maybe stands out above all else with those that have stayed gamble free for any lenght of time is " Acceptance " that gamblings beat us and to let the money weve lost over the years go , if you do this I believe it allows you to move forward and stops you getting dragged back into it all because your angry and want to chase what we feel were owed .

Remember as Compulsive Gamblers " We cannot win because we cannot stop " and the only time we do actually win is by not placing another bet !

Just take the early days one day at a time and focus on what you want to achieve , there's plenty of support on here from poeople who understand what your feeling right now , so don't be afraid to ask or just vent ?.

Best wishes for now and I look forward to talking with you again :))

Alan

Hi Scott (and myfamily). I joined here 2013 but then left it and been losing for the last 3 years since. FOBT, mainly roulette. I genuinely thought there would be shame when I admitted I have been doing it on and off (mostly on) since about 2004 having now got a young family but I'm not alone!!. I'm 35 now with a wife, dog, 3 year old and baby due in a month hence action required! Last gamble 15 September and going well. Wife blissfully unaware of gambling. As I see it, if I can't stop now then when can I. For me personally, it's ludicrous. I am lucky to earn enough for Mrs not to have to work (for now) yet I still chase this money which....really....isn't necessary . Don't get me wrong I'm not at all wealthy but am comfortable. But would be so much more comfortable and money troubles gone if I can finally stay on this road to recovery. Very best wishes.

Day 10 goal achieved, to be honest its been quite easy so far, no real urges or cravings, don't know if thats because i dont really have the money to gamble at present or if its because of the extra determination i feel to beat this thing... I know there will be tougher days like payday etc, but so far so good!!! Writing entries on here definately helps, don't want that feeling of coming on here to explain a relapse... #trainthebrain

Well done on reaching day 10! I'm day 19 but actually feels like its been longer. My 19 days took in a payday and managed to get through it so you can too! Nice to be on 4th of the month and still have a few quid in my account! Be strong and keep the willpower!
