Hello,

I'm 29 years old and have been gambling for the best part of 10 years. I am always trying to stop and recently went 23 days without gambling (not long i know) before stupidly losing all control yesterday and losing £900 in betting shops on roulette.

I have around £35,000 in debts which can probably all be attributed to gambling. Mostly online.

As with every gambling addict i've had some big wins but then obviously some even bigger loses.

I opened up to my friends and family a couple of years ago and they were all very supportive and helped me out but i've basically been lying to them for those past 2 years now as i havent stopped.

I cant come clean again to anyone as it would ruin the relationships I have.

Hopefully this is the first day of the rest of my life as a non-gambler and i post this as a reminder to my future self that I can never win, even a ВЈ1 stake turns into a £20 spin as I cant stop. My life is going to be much better without this stupid gambling addiction.

I jase, I know how you're feeling I'm 34 and been gambling for 15 years. I recently got to 159 days gamble free and then 6 days ago I lost £1500 in the casino in 2 hours. We can do this together!!! Let's get to 100 days to start!!

Hi Jase.

What is your plan? Have you self excluded? Have you opened up to anybody close?

It cant be done with a click of the fingers. You will need to have the real test set up.

Im sorry but the secrecy is not the way to beat it as you will need all the support you can get. Its a very strong and dangerous addiction. Hardly anyone on here has been able to say I will stop now without the right measures and support in place.

We all recommend that your family know because the secrecy will eat you up. gambling thrives on secrecy because your mind has been controlling you and will continue to control you unless serious blocks are in place.

You will need to be self excluded from every bookie you would think of visiting and their online operations

Really you should now be living on a sandwich allowance. You need to be ready to face these facts or you will find it extremely difficult to quit. If you cant deal with these facts It shows that you are not fully ready to stop. If you give relapses half a chance they will happen

Its a deadly serious addiction and it needs to be treated with the respect and fear it deserves.

Yes your life will be so much better gamble free. I hope you will now focus that its a complete losers game and all it ever did was take your money from you

Please ring gamcare as many times as you like and I hope you will use this forum to see the real blocks you must put in place

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

thanks for the advice. I've given control of my finances to my partner and am reading a self help book.

I can't disclose everything to my family as it wont be accepted like last time, i know i can beat this though with the help on this forum and a determination to have, basically a better life i know i will.

Thats great and is the right road to make gambling history.

I may sound heavy but its because I want to help you not make the same mistakes I did.

Being gamble free is a lovely feeling

Please let us know how you are getting on

Hi jase

this is my first ever post on here but I'm in same situation as everyone on here and was reading this and thought I could help.

there is a new self exclusion scheme run by gamble aware where you can exclude from more than one bookmaker at the same time, you just give them a ring and tell them every shop you want excluding from in your area and beyond whatever the operater is then email them a passport photo and they will send the forms off to them all and do it for you with just the one photo rather than you having to go to all the different operaters your self

david plucks is not signed up to the scheme yet so you have to do that one yourself

I did this about a month ago and it's been a great help to me and I hope it helps you too,it's so much easier than going round them all yourself

the number is 0800 294 2060 and is open Monday to Friday 9am till 6pm give them a call you won't regret it

good luck and hope it all goes well for you
