Hi everyone,

I Haven't been gambling that long and managed to lose all my money plus my husband's. I eventually told him and he forgave me. I thought that would be enough for me to stop, but I keep doing it. I'm now petrified that he may look at my bank statements and he will know I have let him down again and leave me this time.

I have always been sensible with money, I dont understand why I can't control this.

I am posting this after I have just lost everything gambling.... Again.

I have put us thousands in debt in such a short space of time, just chasing the losses I know I will never get back. I am now overdrawn so when I get paid I have already lost money to pay it back and the interest.

I need help.

Dear Nelly,

Welcome to the forum and well done for reaching out for support.

I am sorry to read you are going through a tough time with your finances. There is support you can get around your debt tot help you address this and get back in control, https://www.gamcare.org.uk/self-help/finance-and-debt-management.

As well as addressing the debt you need to address the gambling, I wondered if you have signed up to Gamstop. This is the self exclusion scheme for online gambling. Blocking software is also a good option.

You also might like to call our advisers on the helpline. This would give you some more time to talk through your options and get some support with this. They can also refer you for some free one to one treatment. You can contact them on the Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or by using the LiveChat option. They are available 24/7.

We look forward to reading more of your posts,

Take Care

John

Hi Nelly.

I don’t have any self control either. I’ve just gone my 1st 24 hours without a bet and I am feeling a bit lost. The only way I’ve managed this is by installing blocking software, this way the temptation is completely gone.

It feels dreadful chasing losses and losing even more money, so you know in your mind that it’s time to call it quits and accept that the money you have lost is now gone. The only way to pay off your debts now is with money you have earned, and your husband will help you if you are honest and sincere with him.

You can do it! ?

Hi, thankyou so much for the response. I can't tell my husband again, I just have to hopefully wait it out and hope he never finds out. Your right, I have to block myself as payday is fast approaching and I don't want to but now I will gamble. I don't even enjoy it, so don't know why I can't stop. Its crazy.

Thankyou again tigercub for taking the time to reply.

You are proactive by coming on here and calling for help. But calling "fire "also requires running for the water to douse it. Get the blockers in place so you get some space from it. Mugpunter is the term for burning every penny in your pocket when you are playing. I am not sure why some have that more than others but I am assuming that the dopamine levels in your brain are so elevated that you don't pay attention to anything else but gambling till it is all gone and that is what does the "emptying".

The focus should be to stop before you start not after you finish.  That just creates stress and to high cortisol levels and depression. Gambling blockers will give you some space from gambling so that you can sit down with people who can give you some advice in how you come of this. It is VERY important for you to know that you can become completely free from this addiction. But it requires some action to take a step away from the chase. No money on the planet is going to solve your problem. Only changing to a more manageable state will.

Best

C
