Hi

Im a 22 year old man and I have a massive problem with gambling, everyday I wake up which is normally late cause my gambling keeps me up I always have to somehow find money to gambling if it means my own money, borrowing from family or friends, pawning or selling my own stuff , sometimes my family stuff just to feed this stupid addiction and even payday loans.

i treat gambling as my go to happy place

Its affecting my health mentally and physically as when I get down I comfort eat a lot and my mum notices this and due to her illnesses everytime she finds out what I’ve done, she’s becomes very ill and that makes me even more depressed.

im fed up of this life style, I just want to feel happy inside and actually feel like I’m worth something rather than a man who never has money due to this!

I just feel like right now there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel

I’m in huge debt and I got paid today and lost it all gambling on silly things! I want to break this cycle, everytime I get paid, within a few days, it’s gone.

thanks x

Hi Max

If you really do want to stop gambling (and not just stop losing) then you have taken the first step to your recovery by coming on here. Acknowledging you have a problem is really difficult for many of us so well done.

Next step is to get some professional advice - the Gamcare number at the top of this site is a really good place to start. They will be able to help you with the emotional, financial and practical aspects of this. I found counselling really useful, for others GA seems to work.

There is also a huge amount of help and advice available on this forum. Reading a few of the diaries may at least make you realise that you are really not on your own here. People of all ages and backgrounds get caught by this dreadful addiction.

You sound very down at the moment and I feel for you but you really are at a turning point here. Carry on gambling and continue being unhappy and have a life full of regrets or decide today you don't want that and take the actions to stop.

Good luck and keep posting

Hi Max491,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for your post.

It seems like you’ve been struggling a lot with your gambling problem, and it’s making you feel more depressed, and also realising it’s impacting negatively on your mum’s ill health too.

I’m glad you’ve taken a step in the right direction in wanting to do something about your gambling problem, and it’s good that fellow forum member – muststop123 is also encouraging and supporting you in this.

Gamcare provides a lot of advice on strategies to help you overcome your gambling problem, thus I suggest that you contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and find out about other help options available to you.

Meanwhile, do stay in touch, and keep posting!

Best wishes,

Beatrice
