Hi all,

Celebrating 2 weeks with no bets, have had a few beers and feel like a punt but i'm going to resist the urge. Does anyone else only feel the urge to bet when drinking? A strange phenomenon, gambling often crosses my mind at other times but the urges are far easier to fight off than when i've had a couple of drinks.

A bit of context - my problem has been developing for a while with stakes steadily increasing. I have a fair amount of disposable income of which I had been saving until around 2 months ago. A cheeky  bet with some mates ended most nights with at least $1000 in the hole. While I could afford to lose this amount still being debt free and having money behind me, I have decided it's time to pull the pin. This is after my last heavy session a couple of weeks ago, where at one point I was up roughly $4000 and fed the whole lot back through in the course of 2 hours doing max stake on 2 machines at the same time. Safe to say this was a huge low point and I feel have learnt my lesson, but am worried the next time I head down to the pub i'll repeat the same.

Morning Nofreebet,

I believe that if you drink and gamble around the same time- it just makes the urge stronger. It is a known fact that the urge alone- which is your monkey self that is 4 times stronger than you. So in another word, try not to feed the beast.

Albert Einstein once quoted: if you do something over and over again,  you'll get the same result.

If I were you, I will not carry cash when next visit to the pub, however, only bring bank card like Monzo that bars all gambling transactions. And if the urge to gamble turns up: take a moments to realise the urge and take a few deep breaths. This is where you're fighting the inner demon ?.

You have a few options here:

1. Act upon the inner demon feeling

2. Let the feeling passes you by like water (heavenly feeling)

I hope you find this helpful.

Xoi

It's great that you've done 14 days. Keep going. I think there will always be urges, sometimes they'll be stronger than other times. Boredom too can be a killer so always keep occupied doing things. All gambling is bad. Machines are the worst though I think.

You're correct that the urges will always be there. With time and other things in place will overcome the urges. Boring is good for the soul- happy days.
