I feel like I’ve done the hardest part, I’ve stopped gambling, I’m gamble free for around 40 days. Of course I’ve not completely got away from this terrible addiction, it’s only 40 days, but still, that’s a positive. I’m 19, my basic wage at work is £XX. Each month I’m earning around £XX due to overtime, this month should be around £XX. I have to pay £XX rent a month and £XX towards loans, this months actually going to be £XX towards loans, but it will be my last repayment for one loan, therefore going back to £XX. I will have around £XX after everything is paid. I need to start saving up. Now my money won’t be wasted on gambling, is there any tips for saving? Right now I have £29, it’s 12 days til payday. I’m gutted because I applied for a loan through my company which would have cleared all existing payday loans I have and then I’d have just paid that back over 2 yrs. Anyhow, I need to minimise my spend next month, just incase overtime dries up, because if I have £0 in my bank come payday and I’m paid my basic wage, I’m in big trouble. Also I know this sounds REALLY dumb, but when I got paid, I manually repaid my loans (I hate waiting the company to direct debit me, I like knowing my finances) and I didn’t mind repaying loans because I knew I could gamble and win back some money. Of course that never happened and I’ve realised it won’t happened, hence self exclusions in attempt to be rid of this addiction. But now I don’t have that gateway for potential of profit through gambling, I feel like repaying £XX in loans on payday is going to hurt, any tips for keeping the right mentality and staying strong? I’m just keeping my head above water and I will win this fight. I know I can clear my debts by 2020.

Hi

My best advice is that you can develop a more comfortable relationship with money and you must aim for a comfort zone of some money saved. with financial confidence I became better with money and enjoyed having some savings.

There are ways you can use minimal credit to build your life but you have to be good with that credit and not rack up loan after loan.

The main thing is the gambling must have stopped...out... finished... finito. You must talk about that with people close and make sure all blocks are in place.

I have gone from having nothing to a little nest egg of savings and it makes life much more comfortable on a rainy day. I dont mean this to sound patronising but it can be done with a born again moment and new relationship with money.

You are not alone in that life can be tough and its not easy for many people. You can smooth the ride though so you are not so worried about bills and outgoings.

get as much financial advice as you can...they will tell you a lot of stuff you already know but it strengthens your mind to realise that it can be done. Im not one for advising people to take on loans but if you can reasonably comfortably afford to pay it back then it better your life with a base of financial capital to use VERY CAREFULLY ...mainly to keep in place as a comfort zone

I dont mean pay day loans which should be avoided. Im talking a base of a lowish limit credit card or bank loan where you have met the manager

You will be amazed how much you can save when you have a serenity with money and a solid base...what youve got to get out of is a panic with money and a low balance.

This is all based on a confidence with money and being sure that you are in control. Gambling was never the answer and you have to be rock solid on that one....NEVER THE ANSWER.

So you move forward with a new honesty and openess. You will be surprised how much you life will change when you are actually in control of it

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Ring stepchange if your struggling  they can help set up a repayment plan for free where you just pay stepchange once a month what you can afford and they spread it out to your creditors..they write to all of them and most of them agree to stop interest. Check out there website
