Annoying repeating past mistakes

Hi all

I am so annoyed with myself for losing even more money. I came back on this site only 2 weeks ago after losing a couple of hundred pounds and I was disappointed in myself and I was "never going to gamble again".

I have since then, lost a further £150 online on football and horse racing.

My previous drug was the FTOBs and online casinos and I just do not feel compelled to play on those, well I havent in the last 2 weeks as I know I will lose and if I do I will chase. I get a different feeling on football and horses. I feel I have some sort of "knowledge" to enable me to win, which of course I dont, hence losing £150 over the last 2 weeks. These arent large bets either, plenty of smaller ones £10/15 at a time. I just cant win. I just need to stop.

I used to be in thousands of pounds of debt 5 or 6 years ago through gambling, I have no debt (other than a mortgage) and I do have a reasonable savings pot, especially when considering I owed lots of money years ago. So I am by no means in a mess, I just wanted to turn a few hundred quid into a few hundred quid more.

Hi Danny,

"So I am by no means in a mess, I just wanted to turn a few hundred quid into a few hundred quid more."

Is this how it started for you before you got in to the debt you speak of? How did it feel to be in that position?

Perhaps the thought of that can help to move you away from any complacency?

People think that they have superior knowledge, or a "hunch", when placing a bet on something that doesn't have a predetermined expectancy, like roulette does for example. Whatever the Sport, you have to remember that the odds being offered are LESS than what at least one Trader determines the real probability to be.

These Traders are shrewd professionals, who get paid a very large salary to create the odds.

It may be worth asking yourself why you decide to place bets on football and horse racing? It's definitely something to think about before you go to place a bet, because if the answer is to make money, perhaps this isn't rational thinking.

Hope this may be of some help,

Ryan.

I suppose we only stop repeating past mistakes once we have learned from them.

In relation to why do I bet on football and horses -

I have no idea really on the horses, I normally just choose a name I like the look of and/or go with jockey together with horses form. But football is done really on a social basis, it is so common now to sit with friends having a beer watching the football scores come in on the TV or in the pub and all have accumulators, small stakes, ticking them off as and when they come in.
