So ive just seen 2 adverts online after a work colleague mentioned seeing one.
One showing a fobt (sneaky way of advertising them to millions if you ask me) and one showing some guy looking rather annoyed watching a football game.
So whats your thoughts??
I cant help feeling very sceptical. Doesnt seem to me like its targeted specifically for problem gamblers. Its like ok gambling is FUN but if you happen to be in the minority then STOP. Ok yeah like its sooooo easy to 'stop' when your in the zone. Whos gonna walk away with 20 quid in their hand after blowing hundreds on a fobt. We all know about chasing our money.
The adverts shouldnt have shown fobts for a start, just a simple message maybe targeted at the people whos lifes are affected by a problem gambler, family, partner, friends etc
Why not 'is a loved one affected by gambling, help is out there, contact a, b, c etc'. Summat along the lines of a Samaratans advert maybe.
I dunno, im not very good at getting my opinions down in writing...
Any thoughts???
Hi Sonic Boom,
On the contrary, I think you are very good a putting your opinion in writing. I haven't seen the ads but I take your word for it, and you're absolutely right, they should be offering real help and support problem gamblers. The thing is, for them it's not in their best interest to let their future victims know just how awful their life could be become if they start to gamble so someone a watching football with the hump is what they want future victims to believe what a gambling problem is. Remember back to the days before you gambled? Did you have any idea that people would risk their homes and jobs on the spin of a wheel or turn of a card? I certainly didn't, that sort of thing only happens in films right? Wrong. Dead wrong.
Stay strong buddy, and thanks for an interesting comment.
Have I dreamed it or did I see one of these ads on TV ?
Within the last day or two, maybe ?
Yes they have been on the TV. New ad campaign to get "us" to stop gambling when its "no longer fun" or when you have "spent more than you can afford to lose". Many years ago then.

I would have had a lot more respect for the intentions behind the bad betty commercial campaigne if it had taken a similar approach to the made in the royal navy commercial.
They could have started it exactly the same and then showed the guys life go downhill after getting addicted to gambling... Wife left me, became depressed, angry, lost my job, etc etc etc. Then finish with contact details for Gamcare.
The more you think about the bad betty approach the more you think what a load of tosh
What the hell does this Senet Group do on a day to day basis!?
So theres been one ad campaigne which lasted all of 5 mins.
Can someone from Gamcare let us all know??
Speaking of which are Gamcare forbidden to place ads on tv??
Theres plenty of ads out there from charities. Ive NEVER seen a Gamcare ad in any media outlet.
Affected by gambling?
