Had a terrible year for gambling , lost a lot of money. My Christmas was affected because of it , I couldn't get all the gifts I wanted for people which made me feel c**P. Even after huge losses when I decide I must never do that again, after a few days I can just forget about what happened and try again ? Such a strange illness as it gets hold of your thoughts and turns them around. I'm tired , tired of lying , of going broke for weeks on end, but mainly I'm tired of feeling like this, I just want to get back to who I used to be, when I could save money and do nice things with it. I'm going to try, once again , to abstain forever from gambling. Weekly checkpoints. Good luck to all of you in this boat, it's not a great boat to ride

Hi sandals,

I can understand how the cycle you describe leaves you feeling increasingly weary and frustrated - and it's thoughtful of you to empathise with others in a similar situation.

Maybe the next time the urges strike you will find it helpful to re-read what you've written here and re-connect with the way you're feeling this evening.

Please do remember that you can call us on our free number (0808 8020 133) if it will help you regain control next time you waver. It's a free call too with the leading six mobile providers.

If you want to broaden that chat to consider 'stay-safe' strategies and consider counselling options, then we will be pleased to try to help. Perhaps we can also signpost you towards helpful debt advice.

Tomorrow does not have to be like yesterday, but if you need to lean on us and take it one day at a time, then we'll do our best to help you stay on track.

Wishing you well for the new year ahead.

Kind regards,

Forum Admin
