True words Bal..acceptance is biggest part of recovery.
That's where it all starts

I couldn't agree more with you Bal.

Half-hearted measures will guarantee a half-hearted response.

And "99%" won't hit the spot either ... it's the 1% that can undo the other 99%.

I read a book about stopping gambling and it said willpower wasn't the problem, because our 'willpower' is really good - at finding sneaky ways to gamble! So, yes, taking it seriously and putting solid blocks in the way has to be the answer.

I'm sure Mrs Bal has been immensely supportinve too Bal?

Agreed SJB. There are 5 stages of 'grief' we go through when stopping gambling: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The quicker we reach unconditional acceptance the better.

Agreed Bal, 99% blocks in place will let through the sneaky 1% more than likely 🙂 !

& support...

Addiction survives on isolation..support is unnecessary to help us to move forward

Yes; it's tough alone SJB. My mum lives alone, but she says there's a world of difference between being alone and lonely. If you happen to be lonely it's even more difficult. Thank goodness for social help such as this that can trigger extra help for those of us in this sad unfortunate situation.

I've noticed, perhaps not surprsingly, a big increase in new diaries, some of the surge possibly related to New Year Resolutions. Not all by any means, but some.

Yes, I know what you mean SJB. I gambled from a young age (living next to an arcade didn't help). So those childhood 'tapes' have kepy playing throughout my life - we are the sum of our experiences after all. I personally like being alone, we all like our space, don't we. So long as we don't fill that space with bad habits like this!

Some arrive as they want to stop losing - not stopping gambling

I wonder how many new members, startng their dairies, will keep them going, or seek and act on advice that will really help them... there seem to be so many. I've only been on Gamcare a year or so and I know you've been around for longer, it must be sad to see.

Interesting point Bal and there's a big difference between the two states. I guess wanting to stop losing doesn't necessarly mean wanting to stop gambling .....
