Day 2 after losing everything and going back in to more debt and I can’t shake it.
Im better than usual whereby I’m not whatsoever bothered about having a bet and in my mind it’s crystal clear to me I am finished with this stupid S***e for good.
However, I have a big interview today and I just can’t focus. A week ago I’d have felt so motivated and thinking what my life will be like with this job.
Now, all I can think is I *have* to get this job in order to pay back my debts.
I thought getting this out there and seeing some responses may help me re-focus.
cheers ✌️
Hi @hatinthetin . Nice to meet you. I understand how you feel and it can be hard to focus when you have lots on your mind. A big part of recovery for me has been to accept the losses and let them go. I know it’s tough but you cannot change what has happened. It’s done. What you can change is your reaction to it. You are very early into your recovery and you will get through this. Try to see some positive things in the fact that you have taken charge of your life and are moving forwards.
Great reply debsy.
Nothing worse when ya heads in bits after a loss. Keep positive and move on from it.
Good luck with the interview think positive.

Hi. I was in exactly same position 18 months ago. Had my biggest run of losses which was £19,000 in space of 4 weeks and I had an interview for a job I had chased for about 2 years. Through all the cloudy thinking and distractions of having to refinance my whole life, I knew I had to ace the interview to be on the highest salary in my career to sort my finances out for good. To be honest i’m glad my big loss happened around the time of the interview as I used it as motivation to land the job. Aced the interview and still in the job 🙂 Use it as motivation and best of luck. Let us know how it went please we are all here for you. Beat
Hi guys and thanks for all the responses!
It’s crazy isn’t it I have gone on and feel as though I have smashed that interview and now feel a real sense of achievement and feel fantastic.
It’s crazy I came here this morning in despair and now I am almost looking back at my earlier self with pity.
It also really shows that gambling and wins do not and never do give you a true feeling of happiness or gratification.
We all need to focus on other things to fulfil our happiness.
I will be back to let you know whether I have got the job or not (not that you necessarily care) but it is part of my journey.
Best thing is to keep your head up. I know it's cliche to say don't dwell over the past but literally don't. You've done it and now it's actually time to move on. Just keep strong and keep yourself distracted.
Good luck on that job application, hope you get it.
aaaaah I’m gutted.
after an interview where they insinuated I had got the job, I was told today I hadn’t.
I truly feel like that was my way out.
if I hadn’t lost £4000 since December I would not be so disheartened but that wage was my way out.
Instead back to the grind of chipping 400£ a month of my debts away (if I am lucky) I will obviously continue applying and trying but I really needed that today. But that’s life isn’t it.
Usually would try put a big returner on for tonight but thankfully nothing has changed regarding my determination to rid this f*****g addiction for good.
Need to re-focus and try again.
Affected by gambling?
