Hi

Anyone who has read my post on the intros page will know that I have a 23k debt , most from gambling , after now stopping gambling it is time to deal with the debt , with me only just making the monthly commitments on my debt national debt line are pointing me the way of a debt management programme

Does anyone have any experience of one ?

I never want to see a gambling site ever again and after 1 week gambling free I never will again i can't believe I got myself and my little family here

Your fellow friend

Steve

Hi Steve,

Glad to hear you've already spoken with the National Debt Line. You may have also already heard about StepChange, but that's an organization that we regularly recommend to folks in debt, and some people on the forum should have some experience with them. Here's their link: http://www.stepchange.org/

Don't forget to install blocking software on your computer, if you haven't done so already. Gamblock and Betfilter are ones we recommend, but there are some others out there as well, such as what's already been recommended to you on your other thread.

Well done for your first week of no gambling, and hang in there. It sounds like you've got some good motivation there to stay away from it.

Hope this helps,

Travis

I am with Payplan - another non charging debt management organisation. Debt reduced from 28k to just under 2k. Can be daunting at first but ultimately you can only pay back what you can afford.

You have to do a budget with them, working out your monthly income and expenditure to determine what you need to live on. Whatever is left over is what you can afford to pay your creditors. How long it takes purely depends on how much you have left over. Took me over 7 years to pay the bulk of it off. Give either Stepchange or Payplan a call and speak to someone and get the ball rolling.
