Dave, just wanna say your poems are awesome and spot on. Finally after two massive losses , I look at what I have left in monetary terms and to-day I have re-alised you are totally utterly correct. I have made these monolithic bookmakers even richer than they were before. So Dave thanks for the poems I will take notice of you from now on. Some top points, there is no ball when you play roulette and there is no dealer when you play blackjack EXACTLY RIGHT.
Hi Spaingone - thank you for your kind words and I am glad this particular thread helped you.
When I gave the roulette machines up about 3 years ago I wanted to use my experience (although I didn't lose that much in the scheme of things) to help other people see them for what they are and also call it a day.
As I have said many times before and will continue to say, you just cannot win long term. You may pick the odd win up here and there but it always go back plus more. The reason for this is no win is ever big enough and when people lose they chase the losses and end up in further trouble.
You simply have to keep away, no if's, no buts - just keep away.
You will always be tempted and there is not much you can do about being tempted but you can control whether you give in.
I wish you well as you make the right choices.
Dave
Interesting to see the government have targeted the FOBT's, not to ban them or restrict betting levels but tax profits at 25%.
Now think about this anyone who still plays them - the government is doing all it can to raise cash and why do you think they have targeted FOBT's ?
Here's hoping you are not stupid enough to continue giving your money to the bookies and government!
I wonder how many mindless, deluded, greedy, lazy, weak idiots will be playing the roulette machine this weekend?
Hi guys 13 days off the fobt's and can't believe how much you can do with your time when your not thinking about going on them machine's and trying to win money still along way to go thanks adam1
Wonder how many addicted gamblers will be playing the FOBT's this week?
hope those who want help can get it
Me to triangle. Without doubt the help is there but let's not forget they also need to help themselves.
Too many think they know best and blame everything and everyone but themselves.
Dave
Well done Adam1. The only way to win is not to play. Keep up the great work.
True Dave
The compulsive gambler has responsibility to accept their illness and get the help available
You say help is available? I'm not sure self exclusions and control are that helpful for me as a compulsive gambler
If you have a look at other countries there is a lot more help available for compulsive gamblers
Today i keep working on my own addiction and sharing this hope with you
Have a great day Dave and everyone else
Triangle
Hi Triangle - really hope you are able to end up being the winner.
You win every day you don't gamble, you win when you realise you can't ever win, you win when you accept the losses have gone and chase them no longer and the biggest win or all is knowing peace of mind.
Stay strong.
Dave
Thanks fof the replie dave adam1
I have tried to use this site to help others see the FOBT's for what they are but it just feels like a waste of time as people are agreeing with the logic one minute but then complaining when they lose on them the next.
I may change my opinion but for now have given up trying to convince people - they will no doubt realise once they have lost enough.
Either rightly or wrongly I have concluded gamblers are a combination of greedy (no win is ever big enough), lazy (want to make money with no effort) and deluded (thinking there is a way to win and everyone else is wrong).
Don't get me wrong I fitted into this category at the time.
Well done to those who have given up playing them, for those who continue to try and win, please wake up before it's too late!
Without wishing to come across as disrespectful i think telling a problem gambler that these machines are a waste of time doesnt solve their problem. Do you not think they know that? Time after time they leave with empty wallets and bank balances but still return. This is because they are addicted and simply cannot be put down as to them wishing to win money. They do it for the buzz and the fact they find it hard to fight the inner voice inside them that craves the feeling they get. Its not always about wanting to win money. As you all too well are aware winning money and leaving just means that when you return you have extra stake at your disposal
Totally agree Sonic which is why I am not going to waste anymore effort telling them.
It is a buzz, a great buzz but an expensive one and the fact will always remain you are paying for entertainment - no bookie would ever make a gaming machine available with the intention of losing money themselves.
Hi Dave
I hope you are well , its been such a long time since I have posted here but I do read from time to time .
Never give up on posting your messages here, there is always that one person that logs in just to read but does not post .......
Everyone (I guess) has to reach there own rock bottom before they can hopefully come to places such as this get the help and support that's available ..... I think its very hard to recognise a part of yourself in what others write (if that makes sense? )
I am glad that you are in a good place Dave , long may it stay so .
