Hi all, received this email this morning and wondered what people thought about it,Would it be classed as gambling ?

Anyway heres the email (sent from a genuine university email address:

Dear *********** Customer,

Researchers are currently recruiting participants for a behavioural study investigating how individuals respond both mentally and physically when gambling at higher and lower stakes.

Participants will be required to gamble on an electronic roulette game for stakes of 2 and 20. Participants will be provided with funds to play with and they will not use any of their own personal money. Although participants cannot lose any of their own money, they will be allowed to keep any money they win within the gambling task.

During the experiment, participants will be required to wear sensors on their finger-tips to record how their body responds to different gambling events. After a few moments you won’t even notice you are wearing the sensors. Also at various stages in between betting rounds you will be asked to complete a series of computerised behavioural tasks looking at reaction times and problem solving. The tasks are rather fun and not overly taxing.

In order to participate in the study you need to be a regular gambler, betting either online or offline on sports, slot machines or casino games at least once per 14 days. Also you need to have played a FOBT within the previous 6 month period. Full instructions and demonstrations will be provided before the study begins.

All data is strictly anonymous and confidential.

Hi time

First impressions of reading this are is the industry or whatever you call it getting desperate (cos we Are all on here lol)

I think it's playing with fire especially as they only want regular gamblers and ones who play the FOTBS

It must be a windup

Regards Suzanne x

yes to me its gambling under a different facade

Even if i didn't think it was, very dangerous and playing with fire like Suzanne said

Bit like them lighting a match to a combustible substance and standing back to see what happens

I can tell you what happens already!!!

Its not being organised by a bookies,it is being done as an academic study/research,Guess the incentive to people is the "keep whatever you win at the end" without any financial risk.

Compulsive gambling made me feel like a hamster on a wheel - I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig as well....

... and I think they'd save themselves a lot of time and money by simply reading through these forums for a few hours. That should give them enough research material!

I think this needs raising with Gamcare and their team. They have a specific section on research projects on this forum. Me, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. It seems a very dangerous and questionable methodology.
