During my many visits to gamblers anonymous meetings, I have encountered friends who call on a higher power to help overcome their gambling addiction.I have struggled with this notion of handing over my will to a god, even if it's a god of my own choosing.
With nothing to lose, I have decided to embrace the love and compassion of Green Tara, who is looked upon as the mother of all Buddhas. The recital of Tara's mantra (Om tare tuttare ture soha), it is claimed, can induce a relaxed state of mind and help overcome negative thoughts and emotions.
A little while ago I put my headphones on, sat nice and comfy on my sofa and chanted along to the Tara Mantra, which is beautifully performed by singers on YouTube. I must admit I found it very relaxing and intend to sing along to it for 20 minutes (twice a day) for a month and see if I notice any change.
Ps. What will probably change most is the looks I get from my neighbours lol
om tare tuttare ture soha! tara tu
Thankyou Tara. It is great that you are joining me in the Green Mantra experiment ~ Om tare tutare ture soha.
After yesterdays two attempts at meditation, (morning & evening,) I felt quite relaxed and positive.
It couldn't really be simpler, I just follow the chanting (with music) of professional singers on you tube. There is several to choose from so I will try them all. I will shortly be donning my headphone for the first of today's two sessions. I found 20/25 minutes felt about right.
Day 3 of life with my newly discovered Higher Power. A friendly deity whom I can look to for guidance as I strive to overcome negative thoughts and emotions.
Twice daily meditations on the Green Tara mantra are quite relaxing and already I am feeling an air of calm about me.
Green Tara is just one of 21 aspects of Tara, a Bodhisattva (female Buddha) of compassion and action. She is known as the "mother of liberation" and represents the virtues of success in work and achievements.
Day 4 of my meditations with Bodhisattva Tara who I have called upon to act as my higher power.
When listening to the mantra on you tube I tend to go along with it silently in my mind. My voice is not very melodious and I was finding it distracting.
I had a bit of a rebellion in my head this morning. Whilst focussing on the mantra I was silently asking Tara to sow a few seeds and cultivate compassion and virtue in my mind. Something in there was not at all pleased with that and I experienced all kinds of negative stuff rising up in my subconscious. It didn't bother me and I just watched the thoughts come and go. It's good in a way as it shows somethings going on...stephen
Hi Stephen thanks for popping by and your ever helpful advice! I haven't posted much as have been working non stop but am being careful not to burn out. Will try to be more interactive as the forum is key to not feeling isolated. The meditation and chanting sounds interesting will take a look, hope you're having a peaceful and relaxing weekend S x
