Hi All

I didn't think I would be back here 🙁

Basically I was on here at the end of last year needed to get myself sorted, was saving for a mortgage but had a big secret gambling life 95% on FOBTs! Anyway I came clean to the girlfriend and family, sorted myself out got some help to get it of the £3000 debt saved from Jan - end of August and got myself a mortgage with the girlfriend! We are in the final stages and should be exchanging contracts in the next couple of weeks!

Now you can all guess what's happened 🙁 I got the mortgage and because I didn't have the worry of anyone checking my bank statements, felt I had achieved something, a little gamble wouldn't hurt! I'm now back in £2000 debt in a big overdraft and I'm scared big time! I really can't come clean this time last time was a last and final warning from both family and gf!! I know it's wrong but because I had that first big loss I can't stop chasing!! I can't believe it's happened again but I've finally pulled myself back on here for some guidance, advice and anything that will break this devil like habit!! Help x

Hi Roulette Addiction and welcome to the Forum,

You did so well getting a mortgage with your girlfriend. It is an exciting beginning but perhaps a bit scary at the same time. I hope you don’t stay isolated by keeping your relapse a secret. It is not something you can deal with on your own. Perhaps it was unrealistic to expect that you would never gamble again. Recovery is a long term process and it is likely that you would need support with it. We provide free counselling treatment and there are groups you could start attending. Do get in touch with our services to discuss your options with an advisor.

Best wishes,

Hi,

Well done getting on getting a mortgage. No doubt you and the girlfriend have worked hard to do so.

The way I see it and I may be wrong is you came clean last year becuase you needed to focus on saving for this mortgage. Look you managed to do it, but then the pressure is off and the gambling thoughts return and soon you are back to the old habit. To be honest gambling addiction is one thing, chasing is another! I know I was a bu&&er for chasing! Look where it has got us. Like admin has stated above "don't fight this alone" you can't, you'll come unstuck which you have already.

Ihope the damage done is not too bad both financially and to your girlfriend and family. You need to tell them. Maybe the pressure of getting the mortgage or waiting for the exchange of contracts have been the trigger? Maybe it's the relief that the hard work has been done, the mortgage is approved. You will always face these "pressure" in life and these are what us CGs must deal with. How we do it is different to us all.

You've got yourself on the property ladder. Next may come a wedding and hopefully a family. Look to the future, a future without gambling, it's a bright happy place. Don't throw it away trying to add the impossible ingrediant of gambling. When you chase this is when you know you have the gambling addiciton, as you cannot control it. You cannot walk away after losing that initial bet even though you knew it was wrong. I don't want one bet because I know it would lead to 2,3 then disaster.

Come clean again and tell your loved ones the truth. The battle against addiciton is too hard to fight alone. Show them this website and get yourself to your nearest GA meeting.

Wishing you all the very best. Shep

ALL THE SCIENTISTS IN THE WORLD AGREE THAT ROULETTE ISN'T A SKILL GAME. YOU ARE A SPECTATOR, MERELY INFLUENCING HOW MUCH AND HOW QUICKLY YOU LOOSE.

You ONLY win at roulette by not playing it. You can be a winner by not becoming a lifelong addict!

It must be so hard for you to face up to what has happened to your partner and family. but you ARE here facing up to it and there are sadly many thats aren't. don't stress about the past, things you can't change, but try to change the future.. keep trying. I've been trying to quits slots on and off 20 years but feel like im really moving on.

I will start gamcare's webcam counselling soon. If you are serious about quitting you should get on the waiting list if eligible.

I will quote what I said about roulette from another post i did recently...

If any roulette players are in doubt.. its the industries favourite because it gives the illusion of skill. There is no such thing as a professional roulette player because its 100% random, each spin has no bearing on the result of the next spin. The following is a famous quote that has never been disputed by any scientist or mathmetician to my knowledge.

Albert Einstein: no one could possibly win at roulette “unless he steals money from the table while the croupier isn’t looking.”'

Thanks for all your comments! It's really not a nice place to be and I am really worried! I'm also concerned that when we go to exchange the bank ask for the latest months bank statement as from my research I understand some banks ask before the money is transferred - if that is the case and they do ask then I'm pretty sure everything will fall through and that will be the end of everything! I really can't tell the girlfriend not this time.

Roulette is a devils game that has got me hooked big time.

I'll get back on track I know I can but I'm just so upset and mad that it happened again
