ive been on and off gambling for the last 8 years at times its gotten ridiculous and ive lost thousands and thousands

im currently a year into paying a 5 year IVA back

im at home living with parents again and working full time so im fairly finacially stable at the moment , i will occasionally have a bet on the football but generally the line stops there these days

i did have an episode in the casino around a month ago and lost a hundred quid but before that i was 8 months clean

my problem is , my money doesnt seem to hold any real value to me anymore , i dont even acknowledge a balance under £500 anymore

to me its seen as just a bit of "change" and my monthly wages of around XXXX after tax doesnt really do much for me

my bills go out every month and i just waste the rest because i just dont care about it all i care about it getting more anyway i can

i realise the only way to "get more" is to save it , but in practice i seem incapable of doing this and every month i seem to be left with squat

i have recently found that hiding cash away from myself in tins and envelopes in work helps and i intend to contine this

but as far as money in the bank goes it may aswell not be there , its just numbers to me and they arent big enough for me

does anyone else have this issue ? and if so what have you done to regain your value of money ?

Hi, I have been giving much the same thought to my online accounts. I work part-time delivering takeaways as a way of making back some of my losses but when I see £200 or £300 in cash, notes and coins, I struggle to believe how I could have just blown a figure of that and more on online slots. I guess the numbers on the screen just somehow don't equate to REAL money in my head. I could never imagine risking that much CASH in a casino or arcade but for some reason blowing 2 , 3 or 5 hundred pounds online just seems to happen. I sure as hell feel the effects of it in my bank account and when I can't pay bills but at the time it just feels like points or credits in a game. I have just self excluded from most sites today and I feel a ray hope

And if it's any comfort it's also going to take me about 4 years to get back on an even keel given my losses of just 10 months. Stay strong and I wish you all the best

Maybe take as much cash out as you can in lower denominations each month, obv allowing for out goings. If you've 50 £10 notes instead of £500 online it might help you relearn the physical presence of money. Just a thought anyway

Its a fairly complex process of mind control nipped. Your mind must be going oooh this is fun I like these feelings and the chemicals it produces...lets do it

Only its ignoring reality. Its ignoring that your money is hard earned in this and day and age. Its ignoring the real chances and its ignoring the fact that the bookies are thinking this is a real earner...we can get these punters in on a wing and a prayer.

Thats just putting it simply. Its not just money you need to learn the value of, its a purpose in life and how you are feeling inside.

It sounds twee writing it but I started enjoying every pound...bag of fruit pastilles lovely etc etc. I started realising that a pound buys a nice cd in a pound shop. Its just about getting comfortable with money again. I will never have as much as others but Im d**n well going to enjoy what I have in a good way

Youre in the best place nipped and we will rally round and offer you support. I hope your parents are being supportive and understand the addiction.

How are you going to get more money gambling? Its not a give nipped more money scheme. Talk that through. Youve been handing your money to the gambling industry and they love it

Theres not enough there nipped. Someone at this stage should be managing all your money. I dont want to sound harsh you seem just a bit casual about it as if its all easy come easy go. Youve seen the debt it can rack up so that should be the pointer to how serious your blocks and recovery should be.

If you dont care about money it should be under the control of someone that does care until you see the light. You should literally be on a sandwich allowance and then your money would save up nicely for things that you ask for.

Its so serious that you should be justifying to everyone...I want that equipment....Im going to save for it...and can I have it please. You literally have to justify every action at this stage until you are better.

You also have to work on a reality check. You may never be rich or even well off but they money you have should be used wisely

I dont feel youve fully opened up to people close about the power of a gambling addiction and the lows you know it causes. Its as if you are holding something back and not quite ready. Am I wrong?

I say this because I care and want to help

Best wishes
