Hi everyone. I am doing well in my recovery and feeling really positive but I'm wondering when I can expect to start sleeping properly again!.

I'm still half sleeping and waking with the awful feeling of losing everything the night before....even though I haven't!

It takes me a good ten minutes to calm myself down and realise that actually I haven't done any damage and nothing happened at all!!

Has anyone else experienced this? How long does it last? I'm dreaming all night about gambling that never even happened. Lol. I'm shattered and need sleep!!!

Thanku joydivider. U know the strange thing is iv never felt any real emotion when Iv lost. I think I just get numb. But the dreams at the minute and the feEling I have when I wake up r horrible.

I honestly dont think iv ever really thought about chasing the large amount of money iv lost. I just always wanted to continue to gamble. I'd try to make the little money I had into more just so I wasn't so skint but it was never about winning it all back.

In hindsight I cud never win huge amounts anyway as in recent years I lost my nerve to gamble big and instead wud play for hours on small stakes until hundreds of pounds were gone. That in itself is madness!!

I wanted to avoid sleeping pills as I have a young family and work so don't want to b out of it. Lol

Its nice to kno it's part of recovery tho and hopefully won't last forever xx

I used to have nightmares about gambling, wake up in a sweat because they felt so real. The heart would be racing and the initial feeling of why, why, why did I do it would be back again...until I would gradually realise that it was just a dream..Thank God!

We have members in GA who have been clean for over 10 years who still have the very occasional dream. Sorry, but that is a fact. Your dreams will reduce as time goes by. Most importantly you will gradually settle down enough so that a regular sleep pattern will resume. Look forward to it.

Take care

Thanku wal1957. It's good to know this won't last forever or at least not every night! It's bothering me more now than when I was even gambling at my worst! X

At leat now when you wake up from your dream you know that you haven't wasted that money. That is a good feeling, knowing that it was just a dream. You will resume a 'normal' life, but it will take time. Don't rush things. As CGs, we tend to want things fixed now. Take it easy, one day at a time.

Best wishes
