Hi I want advice regarding whether to get a loan. Not a pay day ones that are dangerous but a proper structured one spread over 4-5 years. The advantages I feel would be I can consolidate all my debts with one fixed monthly payout while still having 'spending' money to lead a normal life. The disadvantage would be ultimately I'm saddling myself with even more debt and will be so, for at least the time it takes to pay off. Also would I 'break' again with money to burn and fall into old ways and squander it all? I think my recent relapse was because of the guilt I feel constantly being in overdraft, high credit card payments and knowing I still owe from past family bailouts(which I vow to pay back one day). If I have a base level of money I can put it to the back of my mind and get on with life??
It's crazy I feel horrified to take on long term debt and fact it will cost 100's for the priviledge to do so yet can easily watch on as I actively lose 1000's in online casinos?
Hi mile end, get a loan if it makes things easier but give control of your finances to somebody else because I was in the same boat had all the debts got a loan to fix them all great right.......NO.
I now have a massive loan and everything else that I got the loan to clear so unless that is it for your gambling or somebody can take charge of your finances I think it's not a good idea it just gives you more money to play with.
Good luck.....ste26
Hi
No please don't!! I have been there I wasn't even in debt - took a loan for spending money and to have the money that I lost through gambling back in my savings!! It was great for a couple of months I was still gambling and won a little had money in the bank manageable repayments and money for holidays and nights out- then I lost it all and I am 1000 times worse position now! don't doesn't matter how tempting!!
I think a rule of thumb if you post on gam care asking whether you should get a loan you probably shouldn't.
Only when you are a 100% certain you won't gamble get extra credit but this is years without a bet!! I know how it feels the thought of being debt free feels so long away and you feel that you are having wasted years and not being happy - if you want to consolidate your debt fine but don't borrow anymore than you need- it is only short term!
Hope my experiences help your decision but it is your journey and whatever you do best of luck...i wish I had posted before getting a loan!!
Thanks, I think I know the answer, like relapsing into gambling I was just looking for an easy way out. No-at least for the time being I'm going to brave this one out. I get paid tomorrow so that should keep the sharks at bay at least for a week or two. Looking ahead once paid off all my rent, min credit cards etc I will have just over £100 to do me the whole month! Not great but its my own doing so I 've no one else to blame but myself.
it is tough but you aren't alone; that last post shows that you are facing your problem which is a great step!!im in the same boat as you was going on stag do this month but may have to make my excuses - it's not nice at all!
If you stop gambling either way your finances will improve. Good luck on your journey
Did you get the loan?
I think if you got the loan it must be the same amount as all your debts. No extra or you'll be tempted.
I got a credit card with 9k limit to pay off my 4.5k credit card.
Yes I paid it off then maxed both out gambling as I had the extra.

I didn't get a loan (only because I wasnt accepted!) which is a good thing because I had a gambling relapse in the summer and know if I'd had access to more money I would have bet and lost it! Instead I'm steadily paying off the credit cards (have transferred some of the debt to low interest card) and trying to not let it get to me. it'll take a while to pay off and I don't have any spare money each month but I'm used to it now.
Thanks for the reply.
The debt may take a while but at least you're on the right track.

Have you thought about approaching a debt help organisation like Step Change or Payplan and maybe set up a debt management plan? Worth a try. Costs nothing to set up and what you pay each month is what you can afford. If you are skint every month you are more likely to look to gambling for easy money in my experience.
Affected by gambling?
